Storylines to Watch

In four Games, from 2010 to 2022, Para nordic skiier Mark Arendz collected two gold, four silver and six bronze. That includes a Canadian record six-medal intake at the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. As he heads into Milano Cortina he is still the man to beat.

A two-time Paralympic silver medallist and two-time world champion, Rob Armstrong will be looking to help Canada win more hardware at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milano-Cortina. Armstrong has continued to be a prominent defenceman with Team Canada earning silver medals at the 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025 worlds. In 2024, Armstrong’s stellar play helped Canada to world championship gold.

Adam Dixon played in his 252nd national team game to open the 2025 World Para Ice Hockey Championships, establishing a new Hockey Canada record for most games played with the national Para ice hockey team. Entering the 2025 championships, Dixon also ranked fifth on Canada’s all-time scoring list with 266 career points.

Ina Forrest has reached the podium in all four of her Paralympic Winter Games appearances so far. She was a member of Canada’s gold medal winning team in 2010 and 2014 then added a bronze in 2018 in PyeongChang and 2022 in Beijing.

Discovered by legendary Paralympian Colette Bourgonje at a Canadian Tire in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Brittany Hudak is vying to compete at her fourth Paralympic Winter Games at Milano Cortina 2026. At the 2022 Games in Beijing, Hudak produced her best Games yet with a double medal performance. She took bronze in the 15 kilometre women’s standing race and was also third in the 12.5 kilometre biathlon event. Establishing herself as a leader, Hudak was named one of the co-captains of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic Team.

Defenceman Tyrone Henry has been named the City of Ottawa’s male athlete of the year three times (2022, 2024, 2025), one of only four athletes to win it more than twice. At the 2025 Para hockey world championships, Henry was named Canada’s player of the game in the gold medal final loss to the U.S. and was a +10 during the five game tournament.

Tyler McGregor has emerged as one of Canada’s most respected leaders not just on and off the ice in Para ice hockey, but in Paralympic sport. In late 2024, Hockey Canada named him to its new National Team Athlete Committee, reflecting his influence in sport and advocacy. A fixture on the national team since 2012, McGregor has collected three world titles (2013, 2017, 2024), Paralympic silver medals in 2018 and 2022, and a Paralympic bronze in 2014. He became captain of Canada’s Para ice hockey team in 2019. As a Canadian Paralympic veteran, McGregor was named a co-captain of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic Team.

Greg Westlake is Canada’s second leading para hockey scorer all-time with 175 goals and 194 assists for 369 points in 240 games entering the 2025-26 season. At the Paralympic Games he helped Canada to gold in 2006, fourth in 2010, bronze in 2014, and silver in 2018 and 2022.

With seven medals over two Paralympic Winter Games, Natalie Wilkie is currently one of the world’s most successful athletes in Para nordic skiing.

Tyler Turner was Canada’s first gold medallist in Para snowboard with a victory in the men’s SB-LL1 (lower limb) snowboard cross at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing.  He added a bronze in the banked slalom event. A leader and veteran in his sport, Turner was named one of the co-captains of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic Team.

First-Time Paralympians on Heading to Milano Cortina

Brooke Ailey of Thunder Bay is headed to the Games as a guide for Para nordic skier Madison Mullin in the women’s visually impaired cross-country events. “It is such an honour, not only to represent Canada but to make sure Madison is seen and supported,’’ Ailey told the Nipissing University Lakers website. “People can see this partnership and realize that sport can look different and still be powerful.” It is a second major Games appearance for Ailey. Last year, she competed at the World University Games in cross-country skiing.

Mullin, who comes from Fergus, Ontario, the same hometown as wheelchair basketball legend Patrick Anderson, grew up in an alpine skiing family before being introduced into Para sport and cross-country skiing as a youngster.  “I made the prospect team last year and the national development team this year,” Mullin told the Wellington Advertiser. “I was pretty excited to learn I’m on the team and heading to the Paralympics.” [Source]
