New Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre Open House and Photos
byThe new Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre is now open and the public are welcome to stop by and check it out all weekend. [CBC]
April 4th and 5th will be your chance to view this 473,532 square foot meeting and convention space that already has over 180 events booked straight through to 2018.
“…between 10am and 4pm on Saturday April 4 and Sunday April 5 for a behind the scenes look at Vancouver’s newest addition to the waterfront. Be our guest and enjoy live family entertainment from around BC, learn about the bees living on our six-acre grass and wildflower roof, and enter to win a family picnic on the living roof, or an intimate dinner for two in our 6,000 person ballroom overlooking the Burrard Inlet.” [Open House]
I would suggest getting in and checking out this $883 million-dollar space while you can since in September it will be handed over to VANOC as the broadcast media centre for the 2010 Winter Games. I’ll try to swing by today to get some shots so we can compare them to John’s images (above).
Update: I did a quick photowalk with Kris yesterday, here are some captures:
Update: David Drucker went to the open house today, here are some of his photos of the interior.

I went by it a couple days ago and there were people in business dress going in and out of it while construction was still going on. I cant wait to see what it looks like when it’s all done.
I’ve love to take a tour of it though I’m busy all week.
Great shots, Rebecca. Do you know if the facility is completely up and running? We were there for a soft open event on Monday night and the kitchen wasn’t ready yet. Staff had to produce the meals in the VCEC East kitchen and cart the stuff out to VCEC West … bit of a logistical challenge with 600 guests!
Took a few shots of the interior while the event was going on. I was very impressed and can’t wait to explore it more during Epic 2009.

@ Karen – Wow that is a logistical challenge. It’s “open” for the public all weekend but yeah, not sure about full operations – we didn’t get any media info/releases/press kits or anything.
The Convention Centre is fully operational and expecting it’s first ‘expansion’ delegates in about a week. 1700 Lawyers from the American Bar Association. Went to the open house this morning and it was packed. Expecting upwards of 25,000 people to tour through their new facility today. Free concerts, cirque performers 10-4 Saturday and Sunday. Their new website is http://www.vancouverconventioncentre.com/thefacilities/image-gallery/
Went through it today wonderful architecture and open space. A real shame about the carpet off gassing especially for a building supporting the Leed gold. They should have ventilated the building for 30 days after the carpet was laid (Standard procedure)
Great shots. Here’s some videos we made: http://www.youtube.com/user/vancouverconvention
Wow, it looks great! I can’t wait to check it out…now that Vancouver is giving us some sunshine! 🙂

[…] I’m becoming better with taking weekends off. I try not to look at email, setup meetings and interviews, open up the CSS editor, fill out that expense report or update Twitter excessively (unless there’s a game on). However, being connected is a part of who we are, and who John and I are as a family. As such, we went for a walk yesterday down to the new convention centre since John hasn’t seen the site in month. The walk turned into a photowalk so I decided to take a few different photos than last time. […]
