FIFA Fan Festival guests will get to enjoy the new state-of-the-art amphitheatre, which will be a major legacy piece for British Columbia as well as a showcase of environmental sustainability and spectacular Canadian wood construction. Organizers are planning on live entertainment, cultural showcases, food options, and the ability to watch all the top matches from the new venue.

“The PNE is absolutely thrilled to be named the official FIFA Fan Festival site,” said PNE President and CEO, Shelley Frost. “This is an opportunity to host not only our city and province, but the entire world in a once-in-a-generation event for any city. Additionally, the spectacular new amphitheatre, which will open in time for FIFA World Cup 2026, will be an important arts and cultural legacy venue for British Columbia.”

The FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver™ will operate throughout the FIFA World Cup 26™, beginning on June 11, 2026, and ending on July 19, 2026. Detailed planning is underway, and the dates and hours of operation, programming, activations, and specific content will be announced at a later date.

From Vancouver in the north to Mexico City in the south, San Francisco in the west to Boston in the east, a record 104 matches will be played in front of packed crowds in spectacular stadiums as Canada, Mexico and the USA host the FIFA World Cup 26™.

The BC Achievement Foundation has launched its 2024 Call for Nominations for the Sam Carter Award in Applied Art + Design, which will be open until June 30, 2024.

Sam Carter Award in Applied Art + Design

Nominations for this year’s award are accepted online now through June 30, 2024.

The Sam Carter Award in Applied Art + Design (AAD) program celebrates British Columbians who excel in creating functional art. The program recognizes artists who work in mediums such as furniture, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, weaving, glass, fashion, and industrial design.

Applying for an award serves as a platform to communicate an artist’s work, vision and contribution to the creative economy. The process invites an opportunity for artistic reflection and exposes artists and designers to a wider audience. The program welcomes submissions from those who produce work that has a practical or functional application.

Recipients will be announced in October, with an exhibit of their selected works taking place on November 18-24 at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre in Vancouver.

The naming honors the visionary founder of the program, the late Sam Carter, saluting his remarkable legacy on the 20th anniversary of the program’s offering.  As an artist, educator and curator, Sam championed Canadian designers, craftspeople and applied artists. He personally curated the AAD program’s annual exhibits and guided the program with unflagging passion and dedication. Sam was a true friend and advisor to the provincial, national and global applied art and design community.
