New MacBook and MacBook Pro from Apple

Comments 13 by Rebecca Bollwitt

I’ve had my MacBook since early 2007 and although switching wasn’t easy (for someone who grew up on Microsoft… and who doesn’t do well with change) I shut down my Frankenbox PC that very day and it hasn’t been fired up since.

Today Apple announced their new 13 inch MacBook and 15 inch MacBook Pro, and aside from referring you to the official “How it’s Made” video featuring Coldplay, here’s a quick rundown of some of the new MacBook’s features:

  • Precision aluminum unibody enclosure
  • Ultrathin 13.3-inch LED-backlit display
  • All-new, smooth glass Multi-Touch trackpad
  • Up to 5x faster NVIDIA graphics performance
  • Smaller carbon footprint due to materials, processes, and packaging
  • I was never really tempted by the Air but these gems are rather captivating (mouth-watering more like it). Since John’s Powerbook is almost five years old (and I was also the only one of us to get an iPhone last year), you can bet that it’ll be at the top of his Christmas list this year. Time for me to save up.

They aren’t cheap either are they? Well they did say they was a MB for $999 USD and then the next one I think was what.. $1300? Though if I had the money I too would probably switch to an MB 🙂

@Tyler yeah I think they were starting at $1299.

@Dave they sure do look pretty slick… not even sure I’d want to put a Miss604 sticker on one if I got one 😛

      Yeh 🙂

I love it how having the black border (first seen on the new iMacs) makes a big difference at how crisp the picture is!

I’m uber happy to have a somewhere else to spend my money 🙂

I’m a rabid MacBook purchaser and since OI pretty much work exclusively off of my laptop I’m always right on the Apple release curve.

      Isn’t the MacBook Pro purrrty?

I love Apple. I have the black MacBook and the black iphone (and I still have my old white ibook!), they come out with such amazing stuff so often and you just know your MAC will never break so other than being a tech-whore I have no real excuse to get a new one…but I will think really hard!

They are so pretty 🙂 maybe the new iphone’s will silver to match

@phaedra – oh man that sucks, I heard about your house. At least you’ve got the MacBug now 😉

Having looked at all the features of the new 15″ Macbook Pro…I don’t really see much of a difference between it and the old version. Yes, the Macbook is quite a bit different, but not the Pro. If you added a couple of the features on the older Pro (LED lit screen, 512MB card, 4GB RAM (NOT from Apple!! $600 WTF?)), then you pretty much have the same machine. OK, the new case is a little smoother looking, but really, there isn’t much difference at all IMHO.
