Vancouver Art Book Fair This Long Weekend
- Dates: May 15–17, 2026
- Location: Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver
- Tickets: Admission is free and open to all
This year’s program is produced in collaboration with Emily Carr University’s Libby Leshgold Gallery and READ Books, and Fillip.
“This is the 14th anniversary of the Vancouver Art Book Fair, and we remain the oldest and largest fair in Canada,” says Sharon Bradley, co-manager of VABF. “This is a great testament to the importance of publishing on the West Coast and how internationally connected Vancouver is. Art book fairs are an important way emerging artists can make their works known to new audiences, but it’s equally important to established artists and organizations who want to realize artworks in the printed form.”
This year’s fair features 27 new exhibitors, including:
Page Bureau (New York/Shanghai), a self-publishing unit of RELATED DEPARTMENT, which releases miscellaneous printed matter and digital files. The independent graphic design practice works with a variety of design forms in response to shifting contexts of post-colonial and digital landscapes.
Publicaciones Salvajes (Veracruz), an independent editorial practice dedicated to artisanal, experimental, and inclusive publishing. Their work explores the book as a tactile, poetic and playful object, combining illustration, hand-binding, and interactive formats such as pop-ups and fanzines. Their publications often include sign-language-based pieces, visual storytelling, and small-format books that invite curiosity and participation.
大囍包tōa-hí-pau (Taipei), a newly established artist collective founded in late 2025 by Taiwanese millennial artists. The name 大囍包 tōa-hí-pau is inspired by the “surprise bags” commonly given to elementary school students in Taiwan from the late 1990s to the early 2010s. Each bag contained a varied assortment of items—stationery, snacks, small toys—reflecting the collective’s diverse publishing practices, which include zines, photobooks, artist dummy books, poetry collections, and CDs.
New Vancouver-based exhibitors include Fingers Crossed Press, a risograph press and design studio; Fish Magic Press/Spenst/Navascues, a collective of artists who write poetry and create handmade chapbooks; Rungh Magazine, a Canadian IBPOC arts platform; and Winston Lê, a Vietnamese diaspora poet, interdisciplinary artist, and cultural worker. Lê will provide a workshop on asemic writing during the fair on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00pm.
Following on last year’s initiative to connect art libraries in the region, this year’s fair will feature a panel co-produced with the Art Libraries Society of North America, featuring librarians Sara Ellis (University of British Columbia), D. Vanessa Kam (Emily Carr University), Christine Walde (University of Victoria), and moderated by Sylvia Roberts (Simon Fraser University).
