Britannia Mine Museum is introducing a new summer exhibit, Connected by Copper: From Cells to Cell Phones, on now until September 7, 2021 at the Museum’s Machine Shop. The exhibit explores how copper has been entwined in our lives and delves into the unique uses of the metal since ancient times. It also extends from last year’s Bug Buster exhibit showcasing the protective properties of copper that helps protect us from harm.

Connected by Copper: From Cells to Cell Phones exhibit features a variety of displays including a floor-to-ceiling 3D DNA structure that showcases how copper is used in products to protect us from harm, as well as an electric light selfie photo station, demonstrating how copper lights up our world.
A bonus feature of this year’s exhibit is a digital display showcasing how TransLink has used copper to help kill bacteria on buses and SkyTrain cars.
At the same time, the Museum’s Terralab STEAM learning education space will also run The Chemistry of Cleanup sessions at 2:00pm Fridays to Mondays, showing visitors a replicated process of the EPCOR Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant. The water treatment plant is part of the Museum’s environmental remediation, using natural materials to filter minerals in the water, due to the naturally occurring acid rock drainage when minerals in exposed rocks react with oxygen and rainwater. The treatment plant then neutralizes surface water runoff collected from the area, resulting in clean water flowing into Howe Sound.
The Britannia Mine Museum is open to the public seven days a week with appropriate COVID-19 safety measures and procedures in place. Purchase tickets in advance and plan your visit here. The Firehall Arts Centre and the Vancouver Independent Music Centre (“VIM”) present the 2021 Music in the Courtyard series this summer from Friday, July 30th to Sunday, September 5th. Performances for the second edition of this series will take place outdoor in the courtyard at The Firehall Arts Centre every Wednesday to Sunday.

Curated by the director of the Leonardian Museum in Vinci, Dr. Roberta Barsanti, The Da Vinci Experience offers viewers a video-mapping narrative, focused on the life and the works of Leonardo. Hosted by Sensea Immersive, and produced by Crossmedia Group of Florence, it has been previously staged internationally, but this is the first time it will be accessible in Canada or the US.
This is much more than a visual walk-through – it is a sensory journey, complete with replicas of the unique inventions and machines he created, reproduced based on the artist’s original drawings. The 4,000 sq. ft Immersive Experience room will have 360 degree projections that show the incredible detail and expertise of Da Vinci’s original works, and a Virtual Reality experience inside his studio. After several months of careful renovations, on Friday, July 16th London Drugs will be celebrating with a grand re-opening of its Robson location in Downtown Vancouver (1187 Robson Street). First opened in November 1984, London Drugs Robson Street has welcomed West End residents and tourists to its aisles for decades and continues to attract shoppers to this iconic shopping destination.

On July 16 when the store opens at 8:00am, the first three customers in line will be given gift cards. Customers can expect special offers and give-away opportunities at the store throughout the weekend.
To commemorate this event and its history in the West End, London Drugs will donate $5,000 to A Loving Spoonful, another Vancouver fixture and important charity that has been servicing residents of Vancouver since 1989.
Customers and patients will find a new, refreshing open concept design including an updated cosmetics department and tech experience department. The pharmacy consultations are available, and customers are able to receive vaccines from a London Drugs Certified Injection Pharmacist.

Friday, July 16th from 10:00am to 6:00pm Sean Dillion of Groove & Tonic will be entertaining customers. On Saturday, July 17th from noon to 2:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Roan Shankaruk will be performing in the entertainment zone. Stephen Spender will perform Sunday, July 18 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and will return the following weekend, July 23rd to July 25th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
