Loghan Paylor is the New VPL Writer in Residence
Vancouver Public Library (“VPL”) has announced Loghan Paylor as their 2026 Writer in Residence. Paylor is a queer, trans writer who lives in Chilliwack. They are the author of the #1 national bestseller The Cure for Drowning (Random House Canada, 2024), which won the 2026 CBC Canada Reads competition and was shortlisted for the 2026 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for Speculative Fiction.

Loghan Paylor VPL Writer in Residence
Paylor’s work has appeared in Room Magazine, Prairie Fire Magazine, and CBC Arts. A graduate of SFU’s The Writer’s Studio and UBC’s creative writing master’s program, they are actively engaged in the B.C. writing community teaching, writing, and co-owning a game company.
Once a pre-law student in Ontario, Paylor credits a library workshop for changing their career plans. That experience now motivates them to make mentorship a major focus during their residency by providing other emerging writers with the same opportunity.
“Years ago, an author came to my small hometown and taught a free writing workshop at the local library,” says Paylor. “I attended on a whim, and it changed my life. This is the power of libraries.”
This fall, Paylor is hosting free creative writing workshops on topics such as writing from real life, worldbuilding, and historical research. They’ll also offer individual writing consultations to aspiring writers. In between teaching and consults, they’ll be working on a new fiction novel.
