Dogs and Books at The Canine Library in Vancouver
On a lovely early-autumn afternoon in September you can meet up with a St. John Ambulance therapy dog by Trout Lake to read it some poetry as you participate in The Canine Library.
The Canine Library in Vancouver
- Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
- Location: John Hendry Park at Trout Lake in Vancouver
- Registration: Kids 14 & under must be accompanied by an adult. You can only register for the Canine Library in person at the park. Registration opens at 12:30pm, so the event can begin promptly at 1:00pm.
Once you’ve registered to receive your bark-code, you can check out a pup for a 10 minute session. The lineup will be announced as soon as they calm down from all of the excitement. Enjoy books, barks, and fun at this rain or shine party in the park.

The St. John Ambulance BC & Yukon Therapy Dog Program helps create safe, supportive, and meaningful connections in communities across the region. The program brings trained volunteer dog-handler teams into community and care settings to support positive, people-focused experiences. Visits are designed to create moments of connection and comfort.
The Canine Library program is funded by the Vancouver Public Library Foundation. The Vancouver Public Library Foundation was established in 1997 as a registered charity to raise funds to enhance the collections, programs, services and community spaces of the Vancouver Public Library beyond what is supported by municipal funding.
