Blogathon Vancouver 2008: "O" is for Osoyoos Getaway

Comments 6 by Rebecca Bollwitt

With 29 posts down and after blogging from two time zones during this effort, I am hitting a little bit of a wall and am daydreaming about fun getaways during the summer months. One of which is to one of our favourite destinations, Osoyoos, BC.

Osoyoos Fun

Osoyoos is home to Canada’s only pocket desert, rolling landscape, countless wineries, orchards, and breathtaking mountain views looking down on the lake.

The Scene Around Here

It’s a short drive from Vancouver – meaning it will take you under half a day to get there along the Crowsnest Highway (#3) through Manning Park and there are several spots to camp along the way as well as a post just outside of town.

    O.

    I love saying Osoyoos. Oh-soy-OOS.

Sadly, it’s a place I’ve never visited. On the other hand, the photos taken of the Bollwitt Getaway (c) provided some nice visuals of the town and area.

According to wikipedia (salt – grain – apply), “Osoyoos” means “narrowing of the waters” in the local Okanagan language (Syilx’tsn).

Actually the last time we were there we dipped down into Washington State and explored a little as Osoyoos has a border crossing – it’s a great day trip from a day trip.

Man, I totally wish I could be in Osoyoos right now. It’s a fun place to be, actually!

I’m back from my friend’s CD party thingy, mind is frapped… but wanted to check on you and say you go girl.

Also my family spent many summers camping up there in Osoyoos, my brother does off-roading in his jacked up beast of a jeep, so we did it a lot up there in the mountains, lots of dirt and bugs but great times. It is such a great place, fond memories. Always thought to move there.

So you go go go… I’m going to go crash out like crazy.

i love osoyoos. but actually, it’s not really the only desert area. in cache creek, people have cacti growing in their back yards.

It might be great to hear stories or reviews about wineries that you have visited. I’m sure there are bunch of Vancouver-ites that would love to visit them…but there are like 120 of wineries out there!!
