ON UNCEDED TERRITORY Exhibition
The Vancouver Park Board invites residents to experience ON UNCEDED TERRITORY, a free exhibition celebrating the work of artists from the three local Nations: xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh).

Leading up to National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the exhibition features the work of Chrystal Sparrow (Musqueam), T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss (Squamish), and Mark George (Tsleil-Waututh), the exhibition celebrates the creativity, cultural knowledge, and community connections fostered through the Park Board’s Fieldhouse Activation Program (A-Frame, 8701 Stanley Park Drive).
Since 2018, a cultural residency in Stanley Park has provided artists from the local Nations with a dedicated space to create, share knowledge, and engage with the public on their ancestral lands. Mark George is the newest Indigenous Artist in Residence at the Stanley Park Fieldhouse. Visitors are invited to attend his Saturday Open Bench sessions from 1:00pm to 3:00pm to observe carving in progress, learn about Tsleil-Waututh history, and hear stories connected to his work.
Featured Artists
- Chrystal Sparrow (Musqueam) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work includes carving, painting, and design, often drawing on Coast Salish teachings and contemporary Indigenous identity.
- T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss (Squamish) is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and knowledge keeper whose work explores Indigenous plant knowledge, language, and connections to the land.
- Mark George (Tsleil-Waututh) is the current Indigenous Artist in Residence at the Stanley Park Fieldhouse. A master carver and certified instructor, his work reflects Tsleil-Waututh culture, history, and connections to the natural environment.

Public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, September 24 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm with the artists in attendance along with ‘Dance Party for the Land and Sea’ Performance by T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss with guests Chris Bose and Soloman Chiniquay at 8:00pm
View canoe carving demonstrations with Mark George on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00am to 12:00pm and Tuesday, September 29, 10:00am to 12:00pm.
And Chrystal Sparrow will host an artist demonstration Sunday, October 4 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
