Zipline Coming to Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver

by Rebecca Bollwitt

At last night’s Vancouver Park Board meeting, Commissioners approved the installation of a new tree canopy walkway and zipline in Queen Elizabeth Park this summer. With the goals of sustainability, education, conservation, and revenue generation all in mind, the hope is to engage park users in new ways.

Greenheart, a Vancouver-based company with a global portfolio, will design and deliver these eco-attractions, which include a 300-metre tree canopy walk, a 120-metre zipline, a visitor centre, mobile food services, and a seasonal tour bus service connecting Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Garden with Granville Island.

You might recognize the name from the Greenheart TreeWalk at the UBC Botanical Garden.

Set to open this summer, these experiences which align well with the Board’s “Think Big” Revenue Strategy and will be priced on average between $16 and $20 per person and will also be included as part of the Park Board’s Leisure Access Program.

A temporary zipline operated at the park in the summer of 2015, celebrating the park’s 75th anniversary. Starting from Bloedel Conservatory at the top of Little Mountain Park, it ran 190 meters, offering an over-the-top view of the park’s manicured gardens.
