Harrison Tulip Festival is Canada’s Largest

by Rebecca Bollwitt

The Harrison Tulip Festival is set to return this April, boasting 150 varieties of tulips planted across 45 acres in the idyllic Fraser Valley setting. 14 million spring blooms including the vibrant tulips, daffodils, and fragrant hyacinths create a breathtaking, photo-ready landscape.

A standout feature of the Harrison Tulip Festival is the stunning four-acre show garden, a thoughtfully designed display where tulips bloom at varying heights and in striking varieties, including multi-flowering, parrots, doubles, fringed and Viridiflora.

Beyond the fields and show garden, the festival offers plenty of ways to relax and enjoy spring on the farm, from food trucks and live music to sunrise and sunset yoga sessions, bouquet-making workshops, yard games, the farm store and endless photo opportunities among the blooms.

The Onos family, the growers behind BC’s original tulip festival, are celebrating their 20th festival in BC this summer. They first launched BC’s original tulip festival in Agassiz in 2006, later operating in Chilliwack beginning in 2017. In 2024, the festival returned to its roots in Agassiz as the Harrison Tulip Festival.

Did you know? In the nation’s capital tulips are part of a tradition that dates back to the Second World War, and are a symbol of the enduring friendship between Canada and the Netherlands. “In the occupied Netherlands, the Dutch people experienced hardship, oppression and starvation. In 1945, their ordeal came to an end as the Allies advanced across the country. Canadians played a significant role in the liberation of the Netherlands, an accomplishment for which the Dutch still remember us today.” (Source)

Night Garden

  • Dates: April 16, 17, 18, 24, and 25 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm
  • Tickets: Tickets are $35 per person and include regular admission starting at 4:00pm, allowing visitors to explore the main fields until sunset (7:30pm) and then stay for the evening experience.

The Festival will extend after sunset this year with the debut of the Night Garden, a new evening experience set within the festival’s beautifully illuminated four-acre show garden. Taking place on five select evenings — , the Night Garden invites guests to experience the tulips in an entirely new way. As dusk falls, the show garden transforms into a glowing landscape of lanterns, twinkling lights, and vibrant colour, creating a magical nighttime atmosphere perfect for strolling and capturing unforgettable photos.

Guests can enjoy live music, three food trucks including Dutch street food, and a curated evening market featuring local farmers, bakers, a cidery, a brewery, artisans, and more. Special lighting installations and glowing photo moments — including an illuminated swing set — will guide visitors through the show garden.

Bloom Bar

Another new addition this year is The Bloom Bar, a self-serve flower area where people can make their own bouquets and flower crowns. Set up in a covered area, guests can get creative with the blooms and greenery, and use the arts station to paint wooden postcards and coasters. The Bloom Bar will be open Thursday to Monday, including during the Night Garden.

Shuttle from Lougheed Station

To help make getting to the Harrison Tulip Festival easier, a new shuttle service has been established from Lougheed Station to the fields. Tickets are $39 per person round trip and include festival entrance. The shuttle will run on select dates, starting with trips on Wednesday, April 15, Sunday, April 19, and Sunday, April 26, with varying departure times. Guests booked with the shuttle will have 1.5 hours onsite before boarding the shuttle back to Lougheed. More shuttles will be scheduled based on demand.

The festival’s striking scenery earned global recognition when it was named the World’s Best Instagrammable Tulip Farm at the 2024 World Tulip Summit in Holland. Follow along on Instagram for updates and inspiration.
