About of the Event

Ugly Potato Day is an annual event that unites farmers and communities to combat food waste by sharing imperfect but, perfectly edible, vegetables. It started as a local initiative but has since grown into a national movement. Ugly Potato Day movement was started by the Heppell family in 2022, with the aim of reducing food waste to combat food insecurity.

In 2024, Ugly Potato Day welcomed over 15,000 attendees and distributed 250,000 pounds of food. In 2025, the goal is to more than double the number of attendees and pounds of produce.

The organizing committee has set out to hit a new record by joining forces with over 20 local farms, aiming to secure over half a million pounds (250 tonnes) of fresh produce to distribute to thousands of residents across the Lower Mainland.
