New Park for Burrard Slopes in Kitsilano & Fairview
At last night’s meeting, Park Board commissioners approved the concept plan for a new park at Burrard Slopes, giving the green light for the development and construction of a new one-hectare neighbourhood park on the border of Kitsilano and Fairview.
New Park for Burrard Slopes in Kitsilano & Fairview
The design for the park was shaped by what the Park Board heard from local First Nations, local businesses and community members. The final concept design was amended in 2025, following the acquisition by the Park Board of property at 5th Avenue and Fir Street. By purchasing this final parcel of land on the block, staff were able to expand the park footprint with more space for amenities, including a new fitness area with workout equipment.
One complete, the Burrard Slopes park will feature:
- A large, level lawn at the heart of the park to support a range of activities, including day-to-day socializing and small local events.
- An expanded playground featuring a seesaw, universally accessible spinner and swing set, with accessible surfacing and a circuit pathway.
- An enclosed dog off-leash area, separate from the lawn and garden areas, to meet the need of the area’s high – and increasing – canine community, and to foster social connections.
- A skateboard and small-wheel spot, specifically designed to be approachable and accessible for all ages and abilities has been included in response to the Park Board’s Skateboard Amenities Strategy and feedback received during public engagement. The plaza-style skatepark will be surrounded by planted hills to mitigate sound and create a safe buffer from other park activities.
- New pollinator and rain gardens featuring a diverse selection of native and adapted flowers and planting.
Next Steps
Staff will now begin developing detailed designs ahead of construction planned for 2027. An official park name for the park will be identified and announced through a separate naming process.
