Cloudraker Skybridge – A Bridge at the Peak of Whistler Mountain

by Rebecca Bollwitt

I have been posting photos from my trip to Whistler on Instagram and Bluesky and the number one comment I have been getting is: When did they put in that bridge?! The Cloudraker Skybridge opened in 2018 at the Top of the World Summit in Whistler, suspended at over 7,200 ft (over 2,100m) above the valley.

The bridge is 130 metres (427 feet) long, spanning Whistler Peak to the West Ridge, crossing high above Whistler Bowl. The Raven’s Eye is a cantilevered viewing platform that extends 12.5 metres (41 feet) out from the West Ridge, with exhilarating, 360-degree views.

How to Get There

We were staying at the Crystal Lodge in the heart of Whistler Village so for our day on the mountain, we walked over to the Blackcomb Gondola to make the ascent that would take us up, over, up, and down throughout the course of the day.

Upon arriving at the Rendezvous Lodge, and stumbling into a marmot battle, we did the quick Alpine Loop. You can reference handy trail maps that grades trails like ski runs, with green being the easiest, blue for moderate, and black for most difficult. Even on the green trails you can get some fantastic views of the mountains, valley, and beautiful summer flora.

Once we looped back to the Rendezvous, we hopped on the Peak 2 Peak gondola to get over to Whistler from Blackcomb. The Peak 2 Peak has longest unsupported span of any gondola in the world! You can line up and wait about 10-15 minutes for a glass-bottom gondola carriage but we just hopped in a regular one right away to start our crossing of the valley.

Choose your adventure when you disembark at the Roundhouse at the top of the Whistler Gondola. Straight ahead you’ll see a wooden archway for the Top of the World, where you can hike down some switchbacks to get to the Peak Express Chair and continue up to the skybridge.

A few things to note:

  • You will be walking down to the chair lift, so assess your ability to get back up on your return trip
  • If you’re travelling with kids, note that the height requirement is 40 inches (3.3 feet / one metre) to ride the Peak Chair and that you can’t ride the chair with a child in any form of carrier.
  • Wear good footwear for the rocky paths, trails, and bridge deck.
  • Bring some layers as the temperature drops with the elevation change.

Cloudraker Living Up to its Name

We were there on a cloudy morning in early August and the bridge sure lived up to its name. While we didn’t get the panoramic views of all of the surrounding mountain ranges, it was still an adventurous vibe being up so high above the valley and getting glimpses of peaks through clearings.

There’s a bit of a wobble factor on the bridge but it sways far less than say the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It’s quite sturdy and the views are spectacular!

Crossing the bridge was a fairly easy task for me, where my belly did a summersault was on the Peak Express chair when I looked down the sheer rock face towards the top, spotting some rebar poking out of the mountain causing me to have flashbacks of my Via Ferrata experience at Kicking Horse.

While you’re up at the bridge, you can pose the at iconic Inukshuk and walk along the ridge for more views and photo ops. Those looking for a more black diamond adventure set out on a hike along the popular High Note Trail from here, which is rated difficult at 4 hours and 9.5km one-way.

To check out the view without all of the clouds:

The retail value of a Summer Alpine Experience Pass (online in advance) is $105 for one adult as of today, August 18, 2025. The Summer Sightsee Ticket provides access for one sightseeing trip up Blackcomb Mountain via the Blackcomb Gondola, across the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola an unlimited amount of times and then down the Whistler Village Gondola or Blackcomb Gondola once.

Credits & Thank Yous

Thanks to Honda Canada for the use of the 2025 Honda CRV Trailsport Hybrid for this expedition to Squamish and Whistler. We barely used half a tank of gas during our trip up the scenic Sea to Sky Highway and it was more than capable on a Forest Service Road up to the Squamish Canyon (more about that in a future post).

Additional support came from the Crystal Lodge in the heart of Whistler Village (with the friendliest staff), and Tourism Whistler who provided the day passes. All views and opinion expressed are my own.
