Ackery’s Alley Downtown Vancouver Contest

I’ve partnered with the Downtown Vancouver BIA for a fun contest where you not only get out and about in the city to participate, you could win a gift card that will allow you to have event more fun in the city.

Ackery’s Alley is an “interactive, pedestrian-friendly zone with fresh paint, red and gold details that extend the Orpheum’s opulent interiors outdoors, and a public-art installation dreamed up by local artist Alex Beim that encourages visitors to move and explore.” [Georgia Straight]

The installation opened last summer, in the public space named after Ivan Ackery, the legendary Orpheum Theatre manager who brought Ella Fitzgerald, George Burns, Jack Benny, Duke Ellington, Marilyn Monroe, and Louis Armstrong – among many others – to the stage.

The alleyway is also home to FIELD, a light and sound installation that comes to life when it senses motion. Sensors in the lights detect people or objects, changing colours and emitting sounds in reaction to movements made by passersby and visitors.
