Italy Wins 2012 Honda Celebration of Light Fireworks Competition
byIt was announced this morning that the team from Italy took the top prize at this year’s Honda Celebration of Light, the world’s largest offshore fireworks competition.
“Italy deserved the win” said Patrick Brault, Honda Celebration of Light producer, “the choreography and their use of color was simply spectacular. The judges and the public had a hard time deciding the winner because it was so close but in the end it was a few points and a few extra public votes that made the difference.” [Source: Press Release]
This was the first time that the public was given the opportunity to vote through the Honda Celebration of Light mobile application, which also played the synchronized soundtrack to each country’s show. The public votes were added up and treated as one judge on the panel that included Nasir Kamrudin from Surrey Honda, Kaitlyn Herbst from Global BC, Councillor Raymond Louie (head judge) from the City of Vancouver, Bob Kronbauer from Vancouver Is Awesome, Councillor Heather Deal from the City of Vancouver, and Stirling Faux from AM650.
Expect to see three different countries competing next year as Pyrotechnic Producer Patrick Brault told media on the first barge tour this year that their goal is to branch out and have nine different countries over the next three years.
You can donate to the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society to ensure that this free event continues each year.

[…] Speaking of date night, anyone from BC go to Honda Celebration of Light? WOW, what an amazing 3 day event that this city puts on! They had live bands, including Joel Plaskett, Great Lake Swimmers, Hannah Georges and Said the Whale (just to name a few for the last Saturday). There are amazing food vans/carts that set up along the shore line which included authentic French cuisine, fresh wood oven pizza and my personal favourite, fresh BC Cherries! This event brings close to half a million people down to English Bay to watch an amazing fireworks competition all for free! Three countries compete on three separate nights. The weather held up and we had nothing but sunshine through the evening and clear skies for the fireworks of Italy. Kaboom! What a celebration it was. Italy sure knows how to put on a show! Of course Italy won! Check out some amazing photos here. […]
