Dine Out Vancouver is in full swing again this year and throughout the Lower Mainland people are exploring restaurant menus and getting great deals.

Vancouver’s most anticipated food and wine event is back! Offering an extended 17 delicious days and 156 leading Vancouver restaurants, Dine Out Vancouver 2007 is bigger and better than ever!

From January 19 to February 4, enjoy delectable three-course prix fixe menus at one of Vancouver’s hottest restaurants for $15, $25 or $351 per person, complemented by quality BC VQA wine pairing suggestions [TourismVancouver]

It sounds like a deliciously good time but it just so happens to coincide with Vancouver Coastal Health’s annual restaurant inspections and a healthy number of establishments in the area have been shut down [VCH].

homercritic.jpg14 eateries in Vancouver, Richmond, and the North Shore were closed because of rodent infestations. Other infractions include unsanitary conditions, poor food handling, and at one sushi restaurant, a sewage back-up.

Anywhere from Sushi bars to Subway chains have been reprimanded and shut down for unsanitary and unclean environments, although a handful have reopened within days of the closures. You can view the full report online [PDF] to see what was closed, when, and why. You may also want to cross reference it with any dining locations you were considering in the near future.

“enjoy delectable three-course prix fixe menus at one of Vancouver’s hottest restaurants for $15, $25 or $351 per person,”

351 DOLLARS? wow, they couldn’t even round down to 350 or make it 349.99

Haha. Rebecca, that’s one funny juxtaposition of topics.
I might rethink wanting to go to Taiwan Beef Noodle (been hankering to try it).
And it’s funny because my co-worker was just in doldrums from having indian buffet at New India (who also appears on the list)… was it overeating or something else….?

So riddle me this: Is it a better ‘deal’ to go with the $35 places, or are the $15 ones not as much as a price break? We’ve made reservations at the Raincity Grill for one night, but I was wondering if there was a ‘big deal’ place that we could normally not afford or a hidden gem that we should seek out.

I haven’t heard much but looking through the menus just now, I’m getting really hungry. All the deals seem pretty great. Last night we were told Hotel Vancouver did an all-chocolate buffet for $25 last year. I haven’t found info about it this year though.

I know Jeffery at Metblogs is going to a couple places and will be blogging all the details so I’ll probably be paying attention to that.

i remember that for three years in a row, i think it was, steamworks was closed for rodents. it was a bummer both because it was my friday-after-work hangout and they made caesars the exact way i like them.

oh and cuz i might have been drinking rat feces.
