You can nominate an individual or a workplace in the following categories: Arts, Culture & Design; Business & the Professions; Community Building; Education, Training & Development; Entrepreneurship; Environmental Sustainability; Health, Wellness & Active Living; Non-Profit & Public Service; Technology and Science Research; and Young Woman of Distinction.

Performed to layered rhythms and spoken word by composer Jean-Philippe Barrios, best known as LACRYMOBOY, acclaimed choreographic duo Sébastien Ramirez and Honji Wang will join their company of artists to combine hip hop and contemporary dance with the soaring movement of martial arts in a timely and urgent exploration of democracy, immigration, manipulation, and the place of individuals in society.
Choreographed in 2013, Borderline consists of several thoughts, ideas, and moments that question the meaning of democracy. Hailed as an “ingenious show by stunning performers” (The Evening Standard), five dancers attached to cables perform a series of 11 intimate vignettes that explore the liminal spaces of human relationships. Social and physical boundaries are evoked by the innovative rigging system that renders gravity optional. The rigger acts in concert with and against the dancers, working alternately as a liberator and a manipulator; a capricious force that upends the story, drags lovers apart, and sends bodies tumbling in space.
Wang and Ramirez will be joined on stage by fellow dancers Louis Becker, Johanna Faye, and Saïdo Lehlouh, along with aerial rigger Alister Mazzotti. Each performer is integral to the creation process, bringing their considerable talents as artists and personal experiences with immigration and cultural dissonance to the work. During the performance, they draw inspiration from their own biographies, as well as stories passed on by their loved ones.

Fresh as a Daisy Films proudly presents the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival (“VHS”). The VHS will bring creators, diverse audiences, and the horror industry together for the inaugural short film festival.

The VHS will consist of two blocks of short films curated by the programming team with one intermission. All official selections will be automatically nominated for ‘Best Film.’ All other award categories have five nominees as chosen by the programming team. The VHS Short But Sweet Audience Award will be chosen live at the event. Those in attendance will be asked to vote for their favourite film of the night. Award Winners will be announced LIVE at The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival.
Fresh as a Daisy Films, formed in 2016 by Lloyd Darling and Connor J. Campbell, is a Vancouver-based production company specializing in short films that explore the fragility of the human condition, and the consequences of neglecting the things we require to truly be alive. The company has an interest in dark drama, thrillers and horror.
They aim to produce a cultural event for the city of Vancouver, specifically for those who share their love of the macabre and are fascinated by what terrifies us as well as what unites us. The goal is to celebrate the power of storytelling and provide a platform for emerging talent in the world of independent filmmaking.

On this day in 1940, the Peace Arch Highway was renamed the King George VI Highway. Attending the ceremony was Premier Duff Pattullo and Elmer Johnston, president of both the BC Automobile Association and the Vancouver Tourist Association, along with Surrey Reeve J.V. Leyland.
“Scores of cars,” the Province reported, “lined the highway on both sides of the Peace Arch to witness the colourful opening ceremony.” [Source: Vancouver History]
