Burnaby Symphony in the Park returns featuring the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (“VSO”) live for a free family-friendly performance on July 16th.

Where: Deer Lake Park Festival Lawn (6450 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby)
Admission: Free
This is the 33rd anniversary performance of Symphony in the Park! The event will start at 6:00pm with a performance by the VSO School of Music’s Azalea Chinese Music Ensemble. At 7:00pm, the VSO and conductor Andrew Crust will transport listeners to other worlds, whether it’s the gritty streets of New York (Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story), the story of an alien visitor (Main Theme from E.T. by John Williams) or one of the greatest love stories of all time (Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet “Fantasy Overture”).
Event grounds will be open all day for picnic-goers to set up early, as space will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Enjoy the family-friendly Kids’ Creativity Zone, including musical activities for the youngest audience members. Several food trucks will be parked throughout the grounds as well. Rehearsals by the evening’s performers will occur in the afternoon for park-goers to enjoy music throughout the day.
A friendly reminder to bring low chairs to not obstruct the view of other audience members. The VSO encourages the use of reusable water bottles. Outside food and drink are welcome at both venues.
Note: Parking in the vicinity is limited, so alternate transportation is recommended.

Eastside Arts Society (“EAS”) is hosting the 2nd annual CREATE! Arts Festival an innovative, multi-disciplinary and interactive art-making event, taking place outdoors at Strathcona Park on July 23rd and at several Eastside studios on July 24th. Over 60 visual and performing art workshops aim to connect the community with Eastside Arts District artists in a new outdoor location and with expanded programming.
The festival brings together local artists and the community to explore, learn, and create art together through a series of affordable and accessible workshops for adults and children, public art activities and art demonstrations. Attendees can choose from a large variety of artistic mediums, including ceramics, printmaking, glass fusing, poetry, painting, bookbinding, music and much more.
CREATE Arts Festival Workshops
Workshops tickets are $30 per workshop ($10 for the Kids Workshop) and includes access to the Art Zone. General Admission tickets are $5/children 12 and under are free which includes access to the Art Zone (does not include any workshops).
On Saturday, July 23rd, the festival will offer 50 visual and performing art-making workshops taught by Eastside artists, including Eri Ishii, Russell Wallace, Christine Moulson, Naomi Yamamoto, Chantal Cardinal, S^yowah, Megan Majewski, and Amberlie Perkin (Kids Workshop). Workshops are suitable for a variety of ages and interested attendees can check the schedule online. Saturday workshops are outdoors at Strathcona Park (857 Malkin Ave).
On Sunday, July 24th, 12 art-making workshops will be hosted at several Eastside studios, including at Terminal City Glass Co-op (1191 Parker St), Grace Lee (eikcam ceramics), Aja Billas, and Bruce Inglis & Edge City Woodworking at The Mergatroid Building (975 Vernon Dr).
New this year: An Art Zone with 3 public art activities by Bruce Walther (mosaics), Richard Tetrault (painting) and Serena Chu (drawing), Art Demonstrations by Matthew Holmstrom (ceramics), Madeleine Chaffee (textiles) and Naomi Steinberg (storytelling); plus licensed beer, wine and cider service by Strange Fellows Brewing and food from Melt City, Johnny’s Pops, Camion Cafe, Scavenger Coffee & Bistrovan food trucks.
At the Art! Bike! Beer! Crawl Fundraiser, participants will bike or walk to visit 3 of 9 participating breweries for a pint or flight at each. The event will conclude with a wrap party at Strange Fellows Brewing (1345 Clark Dr, Vancouver). In addition to beer tastings at a total of 4 breweries, participants get to take in art and also have a chance to win some amazing door prizes from event partners.

Lightning on the Lake When: Friday July 8 to Sunday, July 10, 2022 Where: Sproat Lake Provincial Park Details: The two-day boat racing event will feature various races including events for formula one boats, which were last at the event in 2015 according to one of the event organizers.
Five Acre Shaker Summer Concert Series When: Friday, August 5 to Saturday, August 6, 2022 Where: Kinsmen Community Center, Port Alberni Fall Fair Grounds Details: Five Acre Co. presents the first ever rendition of the Five Acre Co. Concert Series, a two-night concert series that will have distinct musical genres on each night and to top it off there will be fresh food and beverages from local food trucks and on-site camping for tents and RVs or vehicles.
Alberni District Fall Fair When: Thursday, September 8 to Sunday, September 11, 2022 Where: 4090 Hollywood St, Port Alberni Details: This annual fall fair is one of the most exciting events of the season and has been running since 1947! It features midway carnival rides, a community parade, logging demonstrations, food booths, and so many more great events.

These Thursday evening markets focus on local vegan food and other essential brands. Open every other Thursday, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm until September with food, artisans, live music, giveaways, and games.
Known for its incredible international outdoor food fair and market, the Richmond Night Market is now in its 22nd year! It’s open Fridays and Saturdays (until midnight) through Sundays and long weekend Mondays (until 11:00pm) from now until October 10, 2022. Taste over 500 unique food items and snack creations, shop dozens of stalls, and enjoy entertainment throughout.
