meowfest, a global celebration of cats, returns to Vancouver on August 20th with a full day festival of food, fun and felines! You won’t want to miss this cat-stravaganza of music, events, prizes, ice cold adult beverages, and shopping.

The main stage will have speakers informative workshops where you can learn the basics of getting your cat adventure ready, or about the ins and outs of your cat’s diet from experts.
Shop the vendor marketplace, can get social with other cat fans and ask questions in the Feline Librawry, have a meet & greet with Internet famous celebrity cats (like @BenBenCatcat), do cat-themed paintings or get a temporary cat-too, and participate in a scavenger hunt.
The full-day, non-profit festival benefits local cat rescues, and highlights include and an “Adoptable Kitty Corner” provided by the Langley Animal Protection Society.
The first ever meowfest took place at the Yaletown Roundhouse in 2018 and helped facilitate over 30 on-site kitten adoptions and raised over $10,000 for cats and kittens in need! They have since expanded to an event in Toronto, virtual events over the pandemic, and now it’s back in Vancouver!

Local, independent radio promoting local, independent artists! The 2022 Fraser Valley Music Awards are presented each year by CIVL-FM, the University of the Fraser Valley’s campus and community radio station. They have a list of 36 nominees in 11 juried categories along with 4 bestowed awards, and $10,170 up for grabs.
The winners will be announced July 21st at the Jam in Jubilee in Jubilee Park in Abbotsford. Each winner will receive a cash prize for being the highest adjudicated applicant in their category. The Mission Folk Music Festival will also select their favourite nominee and offer them a performance spot at the Summer 2023 festival.
Two-Time 2021 Winner Etienne Siew
Etienne Siew, who took home two awards in 2021 for Best Country/Roots category, as well as the Top Fan Vote says this of his experience: “Winning Last year’s awards really helped me appreciate what I have been working at, it enforced that I am on the right track with music and I am doing what I have always dreamed of, being an original artist who writes impactful stories. The support I received in the fan vote, above all, was an indication that my music is doing something positive for people, and that is really what I have set out to accomplish.”
Siew is once again up for nomination in the Juried Country Roots Category. “I am just so honored to have my music considered for a Second Year in The Fraser Valley Music Awards. I feel grateful to CIVL Radio, who are doing an amazing job of highlighting our work as artists and am happy to have my music reaching others in a positive way, it’s what I have always wanted.”

About the Awards
The awards, now in their seventh year, are an initiative of CIVL Radio, which was named Canada’s #1 Campus Radio Station in 2022, and were first hosted in July 2016 after a year-long grant project funded by the Community Radio Fund of Canada.
Starting in 2020, as an extension of the station’s commitment to the region’s musicians, and that group’s livelihood having been particularly devastated by the effects of COVID-19, the station has put up $10,170 in prizing to be split between the years’ winners.

The Giving Hearts Awards (“GHA”) honour outstanding individuals, volunteers, leaders, fundraisers, philanthropists, and youth of Greater Vancouver’s non-profit and social profit community. This year, AFP Greater Vancouver received 31 nominations from charities throughout the Lower Mainland.
The GHA recipients will be announced for the categories of Spirit of Generosity (formerly Outstanding Philanthropist), Outstanding Legacy Philanthropist, Outstanding Youth Philanthropist, Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, Outstanding Professional Fundraiser, Outstanding Corporation, and Outstanding Small Business.
“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen inspirational levels of generosity and leadership directed to non-profit organizations in our communities,” said Kyle Tiney, CFRE, Vice President, Community Engagement, Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Vancouver Chapter. “We continue to be inspired and motivated to put a spotlight on some of the individuals and businesses who put so much of their own philosophies on giving back to their community through leadership, philanthropy and volunteerism.”
Past recipients have included Dr. Rudy and Mrs. Patricia North, the McCarthy Family, Odlum Brown Limited, and Mel Zajac. Last year, AFP Greater Vancouver Chapter also recognized Coast Capital Savings and the Family Services of the North Shore Christmas Bureau Volunteer Lead Group as the recipients of two exclusive Pandemic-Response.
