The IBA Gala will be hosted by Geena Jackson of Bears’ Lair and Chief David Jimmie, 2022 Award of Distinction recipient.

In an annual event that is synonymous with business excellence for Indigenous entrepreneurs, the 2023 IBA Gala Dinner promises to be a night of celebration, recognition, and inspiration. The celebration acknowledges the achievements of the awardees while fostering a sense of solidarity among all attendees, encouraging networking, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas.

With a theme of Building Community, this year’s IBA Gala dinner will honour these exceptional Indigenous businesses which have exemplified innovation, tenacity, and excellence in their respective fields.

The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival (VHS) returns for a sixth year with an expanded platform and programming. You can enter to win passes to one of their weekend programs.

VHS is partnering with The Burnaby Halloween Festival for VHS: The Burnaby Edition. The all-ages festival will take place as a part of Burnaby Halloween Festival. The Burnaby edition will offer fresh programming complete with three feature films and two shorts blocks, filmmaker Q&As as well as the VHS Talks Panel Series, sponsored by UBCP/Actra.

The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival is hitting the road! In 2023, the hit Vancouver Festival is taking the show on the road with screenings at independent theaters in Terrace and Grand Forks.

VHS Terrace
VHS is partnering with Tillicum Twin Theatres in Terrace for the inaugural VHS RoadShow! Audiences can enjoy five feature films and 36 shorts from Canada and around the world.  Tickets are available for purchase only at the Tillicum Twin Theatres  box office.

VHS Grand Forks
Audiences can enjoy two short film programs, complete with 21 shorts from Canada and around the world.  Tickets are available for purchase at the GEM Theatre box office. $12 for single tickets, or $20 for a Full VHS Roadshow Grand Forks Festival Pass.

Under the culinary direction of Notch8 Head Chef Danai Hongwanishkul, and venue design by Koncept Events, the tea room décor features a warm and inviting ambiance that captures all senses of the season, setting the backdrop for an immersive dining experience.  

Autumn Harvest Afternoon Tea

  • When: Available now until Sunday, November 19 with seatings Thursday through Sunday and statutory holiday Mondays at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. 
  • Where: Notch8 Restaurant & Bar (Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, 900 W Georgia St)
  • Reservations: Book online now. The specialty Afternoon Tea service can also be reserved in Tea-to-Go format by ordering in advance.

Savoury dishes pay tribute to the fall harvest with items such as Butternut Squash Tart with toasted walnuts and whipped goat cheese, Mushroom and Thyme puff-pastry pinwheel, and Brie and Pear Tea Sandwich. The artistry of the hotel’s pastry team will highlight a collection of items featuring warm spices and festive ingredients such as fluffy cinnamon sugar maple scones with cream and apple compote, Spiced Latte Coffee Cake, a sweet and spicy Ginger Pear Tart, and Pumpkin Profiteroles

Cocktails, wine and bubbles are available as optional add-ons to the experience. Assistant General Manager Steve Hagan has designed a selection of feature cocktails available only during Afternoon Tea service. The Pumpkin Spice Latte Martini featuring vodka, Kahlúa, pumpkin spice cream and espresso that takes the beloved PSL to a new level, while the Harvest Moon Honey comprised of cranberry gin, lemon, spiced honey, and honeycomb sugar offers a seasonal twist on the classic Bees Knees. The Orchard Breeze takes guest through the warm and complex flavours of Fall with bourbon, apple cider, ginger of the indies, lemon, bitters and splash of soda.

The Autumn Harvest Afternoon Tea experience is available for $69.00 (excluding taxes and gratuity) per person and begins with a menu of hand-selected loose-leaf tea inspired by autumn flavours, along with a tea tier of dishes to complement the tea room’s cozy ambiance.

A special Children’s Afternoon Tea menu for ages 12 and under is available for $40.00 (excluding taxes and gratuity).

Halloween in Burnaby – Spooktacular Family Fun

The Burnaby Village Museum is transforming into Haunted Village this fall, with tales lifted from storybook pages and transformed into visual displays throughout the 10-acre open air site.

Delight in spectacular performances by the Vancouver Circus School and dance the night away at the bandstand dance parties. Wear your costumes and get into the Halloween spirit at Burnaby Village Museum’s Haunted Village. 

 Mai’s Cafe (located inside Burnaby Village Museum) will offer Halloween themed food and Cravings Kettle Corn will be also be on site.

Central Spark + Halloween Fireworks

The City of Burnaby is also presenting Central Spark, a family-friendly Halloween celebration at Central Park on Friday, October 27th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The festivities will be along Patterson Avenue (Kingsway to Central Boulevard) and at Central Park (corner of Kingsway and Patterson Ave). Don’t miss the fireworks finale at 8:15pm!

There is free fun for everyone including a spooky outdoor maze, roving entertainment, carnival games, art activities, a photobooth, food trucks and a fireworks finale all taking place in Central Park.
