Gearing up for the Season

Comments 11 by Rebecca Bollwitt

This morning I woke up to Tweets from several people who were excited to see snow dusted across the tops of the local mountains.

I’m gearing up for another season at Mt. Seymour as well as a trip to Keira’s beloved Mt. Washington to celebrate the start of the season.

Even though it’s still October, when it comes to local skiing, boarding and tubing – where are you going for the best powder experience?

I’m not going to snowboard. You and Keira and Jen scared me the other night, and I am afraid of breaking bones. Now, as far as meeting hot snowboarders… now we’re talking 🙂

@ Colleen – Ah yes, forgot about Manning!
@ Raul – Aww, we all made it through our training phases with only bumps n’ bruises. How about some snowshoeing or tubing instead?

I have my Cypress Season pass as well as my Whistler/Blackcomb EDGE card loaded with 6 days. We also booked 2 nights in Whistler Village (Dec20,21) because I have not been to Whistler during the Christmas Season and a pseudo BDay present to me bday is after Dec25th.

We might hit Mt.Washington. We have friends on Grouse that have complimentary lift passes for us. And I want to do Mt.Seymour at least once because it’s where I learnt to Ski and failed at it 😉 So snowboarding should allow me to conquer it!

We also might hit up Big White or SilverStar, though we have been looking at things like Fernie as well.

We also plan to do some snowshoeing and tubing too.

I’ll be boarding at least once a week.

@ Tyler – Nice! You are a machine!

I’ll be hitting local mountains resort skiing style when I’m feeling lazy… I’m planning to get a 1 day EDGE card for Whistler and bunch of my friends are planning to hit Baker for a weekend in Jan.

Other than that, probably will try to skin up Seymour on the snowshoe trail as much as I can and head out for some sweet backcountry pows.

I’m very looking forward in skiing around Phelix Creek near D’arcy again this season. 🙂

Manning Park is my family’s weekend getaway 🙂
Haven’t been myself – yet – but I’m certainly looking forward to my first time!

I’m hoping to get up to Whistler over the holidays. I still haven’t skiied at Whistler and this *must* be rectified!

If it’s a powder experience you’re looking for – going inland is the only place to go. As far as good snowboarding – Whistler and Mount Washington are my faves. Although I’d love to put together a weekend road trip to Mount Cain on northern Vancouver Island sometime. The only thing is that it’s all t-bars there and I haven’t been in good enough shape the last few winters to ride up and down a mountain all day.

Looking forward to one of the two benefits of winter (the other being hockey!)

Do you have all your gear for the year Rebecca?

@ Tawcan, I’d love to do some snowshoeing, I think a group of people went up on New Years Eve last year – that would be awesome.

    @ Beth, I haven’t been to Whistler since I attended a Yearbook Convention in 1998… yeah… Yearbook Convention…

    @ Jeremy, I have complete gear, although I’m looking to renew/upgrade – that’s coming 😉

Apex was my first love. Worked there from 97-99 as a lifty 🙂 Best job ever. I’d love to get up there for more fun. The fluffy powder of the interior seriously babysits you on the way down the hill. Coastal snow just isn’t the same IMHO.
