stal̕əw̓asəm Riverview Bridge Now Open One Lane Northbound
The Pattullo Bridge replacement project reached a new milestone today as the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge opened one lane northbound this morning with an exit off-ramp to East Columbia Street. The old Pattullo Bridge is still open all lanes, north and south.
The new crossing will fully replace the Pattullo Bridge between Surrey and New Westminster, which opened in 1937.
stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge Now Open One Lane Northbound

Call it a soft opening. The new Riverview Bridge partially opened to vehicle traffic Christmas Eve morning. Single lane northbound with an exit off-ramp to East Columbia Street. The new crossing connects Surrey and New Westminster. Open does not mean complete but it's a start.

During the first phase, one northbound lane has opened to traffic on December 24 2025. Traffic will be switched to the new bridge in phases, to allow for completion of the tie-ins to existing infrastructure on either side.
Subsequent phases will begin in January and involve various lane configurations, including a one-week closure of both bridges anticipated in mid to late January. This work is weather dependent, and specific dates will be communicated when they are confirmed.
Once all four lanes open, the new bridge will connect to King George Boulevard in Surrey and McBride Boulevard in New Westminster. The off-ramp to East Columbia Street in New Westminster will also be open.
The new Royal Avenue on-ramp, Columbia Street loop-ramp and Highway 17 off-ramp will open in phases, as they cannot be completed until sections of the connecting roadways and the Pattullo Bridge have been removed.
