Vancouver Beaches, Outdoor Pools, and Spray Parks 2025
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation will open two of its outdoor pools and staff its nine swimming beaches with lifeguards on May 17, 2025.
Vancouver Outdoor Pools
New Brighton and Second Beach pools will open May 17, 2025. Kitsilano Pool is set to open mid-June (subject to change). Maple Grove Pool will open on June 14 and Hillcrest Outdoor Pool will open with the indoor pool on June 30, after their extended maintenance refit. More operational details to follow in the coming weeks; follow the Vancouver Park Board for updates.
Registration for first swim times (May 17) opens online on May 14, 2025 at 12:00pm; visitors can continue to book sessions three days in advance for the remainder of the season. Drop-in sessions will be available however, admission is not guaranteed so pool visitors are recommended to reserve times online.
To help meet demand as warmer weather approaches, hours of operation at Second Beach Pool will be extended to support additional public access until Kitsilano Pool opens mid-June.

Vancouver Spray Parks
The following spray parks will be open to the public from May 17 to September 30 from 9:00am to 9:00pm: Connaught Park, CRAB Park at Portside, Harbour Green Park, Grandview Park, Hastings Park, Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park, Oak Park, Prince Edward Park, Pandora Park, Norquay Park, and sθәqәlxenәm ts’exwts’áxwi7 and Garden Park. Chaldecott Park is closed for repairs until further notice. Maclean Park has reduced operation due to maintenance. Staff will supervise these parks from July 2 to August 31. A list of wading pools operation dates, times, and locations is available online. Supervised spray parks, summer playground programming, and wading pools are staffed during peak attendance times.

Swimming at Vancouver Beaches
As of May 17, 2025, lifeguards will patrol and supervise designated swimming areas at: English Bay Beach, Jericho Beach, Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach, Spanish Banks East and West Beach, Sunset Beach, Second Beach, Third Beach, and Trout Lake. Patrolled swimming areas will be marked by red and yellow flags from 12:00pm to 8:30pm daily. Patrol hours will change later in the summer season.
Beachgoers wanting to participate in canoeing, kayaking, rowing, dragon boating, outrigging, paddle boarding, surf skiing, windsurfing, small craft sailing, kite surfing and boarding can launch from and recover at: Kitsilano Beach, Spanish Banks East (this is the only designated kite surfing launch location), Spanish Banks West, and Sunset Beach.
After successful pilots in 2023 and 2024, the Park Board has approved alcohol consumption at select beaches starting in May 2025. From May long weekend to September 30, adults over the age of 19 will be able to bring and consume alcohol at the following beaches between 11:00am to 9:00pm: Jericho Beach, Spanish Banks, Locarno Beach, Second Beach, Kitsilano Beach, John Hendry/Trout Lake Beach, and New Brighton Beach.
Drinking is not permitted at English Bay Beach, Sunset Beach Park, and Third Beach. Beachgoers are reminded to avoid entering the water when intoxicated. Visitors must be respectful to other beach users and help keep green spaces clean by properly disposing of trash or taking it away with them. Glass bottles and containers are not allowed, visitors may only bring cans, reusable plastic or paper containers.
