Black History Walking Tour of Vancouver
byJoin Afro Van Connect and Black Space Media INC for the Black History Walking Tour of Vancouver this February. Participants will be guided through the historic neighbourhood of Strathcona in East Vancouver as hosts discuss the impact, heritage, and culture of BC’s African Descent Community from 1858 to now.
The 45 minutes Black History Walking tour encapsulates the history of Black Pioneers like Mifflin Gibbs, “The King of English Bay” Seraphim “Joe” Fortes, Rock Roll Legend Jimi Hendrix and much more.
Black History Walking Tour of Vancouver
- Dates: Saturdays in February, starting at 1:00pm
- Location: Andy Livingstone Park (Union and Quebec Streets)
- Tickets: Available online now by donation
- Each participant will receive a “BC Black History Novelty Quiz” created by Sadie Kuehn (Community Leader and Activist).
Lead by Kor Kase, Co-Founder of Afro Van Connect, participants will get an overview of Black history in Vancouver as the tour makes it way to the Georgia Viaduct Mural, Nora Hendrix’s Place, Hogan’s Alley, and the Fountain Chapel.
This event series aims to amplify the African descent communities’ culture and heritage in BC, honouring the lived and shared experience of our ancestors on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
