Freshwater Monitoring Campaign in Stanley Park

This fall, Stanley Park Ecology (“SPE”) plans to build on its current summer freshwater monitoring program by launching year-round monitoring of Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake. You can support this important work by donating to their Matching for Monitoring campaign.

Your support helps SPE build their first monitoring program that follows Beaver Lake and Lost Lagoon through every season. This long-term data will help gain an understanding of how these ecosystems are changing and provide valuable information to guide future conservation and restoration efforts.

Freshwater Monitoring Campaign in Stanley Park

Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake are vulnerable wetland ecosystems that function best within a delicate balance. Prolonged algae blooms, declining water quality, and changing wetland conditions signal that balance is under threat, putting plants and animals that depend on these ecosystems at risk.

Community members, youth, students, and SPE staff will collect water quality data across all four seasons, creating a scientific foundation across a broader range of ecological indicators that reveals where these ecosystems are struggling, what may be driving it, and where restoration efforts will have the greatest impact. Findings will be published in a public freshwater report, putting science into the hands of the community, guiding restoration efforts, and supporting evidence-based management decisions.

Thanks to the support of the Board of Directors, every donation is being matched up to $12,500. Funds raised before October 7 will help them carry this work from summer into fall.
