As the holiday season winds down, you may be wondering where to recycle your Christmas tree around Vancouver. Thankfully, there are plenty of local charity events and eco-friendly options to help you dispose of your tree sustainably.

From municipal drop-off locations to local chipping events, you can easily ensure your tree gets a second life as mulch or compost. Here’s a complete guide to Christmas tree recycling near you, including dates, locations, and tips to make the process hassle-free.

Burnaby

Residential tree collection takes place between January 12-30, 2026. Leave the tree out by your regular pickup area anytime during these dates and we will pick up as soon as possible. If you receive weekly City collection services, you’re eligible for the curbside pickup service. Download the collection schedule app for helpful holiday reminders and updates. The app’s calendar feature isn’t available to residents of multi-family buildings. 

  • Only natural trees can be recycled–artificial trees or those covered in snow foam cannot.
  • It must be free of any ornaments, tinsel or lights.
  • It goes out next to your green bin–or chopped up and placed into the green bin with a closed lid.  

If you missed the curbside collection, you can also drop off your tree for free at the Eco-Centre. Remember to bring your proof of residency. 

Coquitlam

Friends of Mundy Park Heritage Society
When: Saturday, January 3 & Sunday, January 4, 2026 10:00am to 4:00pm
Where: Mundy Park – Hillcrest Parking Lot (641 Hillcrest St, Coquitlam)
Details: Bring your tree, free of stands, decorations, tinsel, and flocking. Donations are welcome and go directly to supporting group activities and programs in Coquitlam.

Scouts francophone de Maillardville
When: Saturday, January 3, 2026 9:00am to 3:00pm
Where: Canadian Tire Parking Lot (1200 Seguin Dr, Coquitlam)
Details: Bring your tree, free of stands, decorations, tinsel, and flocking. Donations are welcome and go directly to supporting group activities and programs in Coquitlam.

Kinsmen Club of Coquitlam
When: Saturday, January 3 & Sunday, January 4, 2026 9:00am to 4:00pm
Where: Town Centre Park – Lot A, Coquitlam
Details: Bring your tree, free of stands, decorations, tinsel, and flocking. Donations are welcome and go directly to supporting group activities and programs in Coquitlam.

Residents who miss the event are encouraged to use alternative disposal options, including designated drop-off locations or other approved recycling services listed below. 

  • Green Carts: Cut your natural tree into 1-metre lengths with branches under 10 cm in diameter and ensure the lid closes completely.
  • United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre: Drop off trees for free at 995 United Boulevard (proof of Coquitlam residency required).

Delta

North Delta Lions Club Tree Chip
Where: Ladner Memorial Park (5010 47 Ave) & Sungod Arena (7825 112 St)
When: Saturday, January 3 & Sunday, January 4, 2026 9:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Your donations through tree chipping keep the North Delta Lions Club up and running to provide services to North Delta and Ladner. They provide equipment for the Hillside Boys and Girls Club yearly using your donations as well as many bursaries.

Langley

1st Willoughby Scouts Tree-Chipping
When: Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 9:00am to 4:00pm 
Where: Willoughby Elementary School (20766 80 Ave, Langley)
Details: Tree chipping by minimum $20 donation. Please call or text 604-619-6504 to request a pickup. Donations are used for camping equipment, food, supplies, facilities rentals, and fees for various activities. 

1st Walnut Grove Scouts Tree Chipping
When:
Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 9:00am to 2:00pm
Where: Walnut Grove Secondary School (8919 Walnut Grove Dr, Langley)
Details:Tree chipping by donation. Pick up services available for a minimum $10 donation per tree pick up in Walnut Grove. Please email [email protected] to request pick up. Donations are used to run our youth programs which includes sending youth to camp, purchasing camping equipment, and other youth activities.

D.W. Poppy Dry Grad Tree-Chipping and Bottle Drive Fundraiser
When:
Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 10:00am to 1:00pm 
Where: D.W. Poppy Secondary School (23752 52 Ave, Langley)
Details:  Tree chipping and bottle drive event. Donations can be made by e-transfer to [email protected] or by cash. Trees and bottles can be dropped off from 8am to 1pm or pick up can be arranged (possible Friday evening or early Saturday morning pick up). Tim Keis Real Estate Team Tree Chipping

Details: Tree chipping is offered by donations. All proceeds go towards the Langley Food Bank.

Hagen & Guiel Real Estate Group

Details: Tree chipping offered by donation. Donations will be used to support students in need at Walnut Grove Secondary School.

Additional options are to take your tree to a Recycling and Waste Centre for composting. A minimum $10 fee applies to organic waste. Find a Recycling and Waste Centre near you.

North Shore

North Vancouver City Firefighters Local 296 Tree Chip Up
When: Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 8:30am to 4:00pm
Where: RONA Park & Tilford (1160 E 3rd St, North Vancouver)
Details: Bring your Christmas tree by for chipping by donation and enjoy a BBQ and food while you’re there. All proceeds support the North Vancouver City Firefighters Foundation, helping us give back and support our community. 

Upper Lonsdale Preschool Tree Chip-Up
When: January 3 & 4, 2026 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
Where: District of North Vancouver Municipal Hall Parking Lot (355 W Queens Rd, North Vancouver)
Details: Bring your trees and support ULP. They also offer a tree pick-up service on the morning of January 4th for $30 minimum donation.

Surrey

Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society Annual Tree Chip
Where: Guildford Town Centre Parking Lot (150 St & 105 Ave, Surrey)
When: Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 8:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Since 1994, Surrey fire fighters have been chipping trees and collecting donations to benefit the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society for youth and family programs. All donations will be put back into the community funding programs such as the nutritional snack program, which feeds over 7500 kids a year across 130 schools. 

Vancouver Christmas Tree Recycling

Special Events
When: Saturday, January 10 & Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Bring your Christmas tree to a chipping event for chipping and composting. Donations of cash and non-perishable food items are welcome and will be distributed to local charities.

Locations:

  • King George Secondary School parking lot  
  • Kitsilano Beach parking lot
  • Kerrisdale Ice Arena north parking lot (5670 E Blvd, north of 41st Ave)
  • Trout Lake Community Centre parking lot

Remove all lights, ornaments, and tinsel. Artificial trees and trees sprayed with artificial snow or foam will not be accepted.

Households with City green bin service are eligible for curbside Christmas tree and extra leaf collection.  Set out your Christmas tree and extra leaves by 7:00am on Saturday, January 10. Collection will take place throughout the month and be completed by January 31, 2026.

How to set your tree out for pick-up:

  • Leave the tree loose (no bags, string, or rope)
  • Place the tree in the same location you set out your bins and make sure it’s visible from the lane or street
  • Lay the tree on its side

Check the collection schedule and enter your address to confirm your tree collection date.

Cut your Christmas tree into small pieces and place in your green bin for regular pickup.

Pieces should be less than 50cm in length (18in) and less than 10cm (4in) in diameter. Make sure the green bin is loosely packed and the lid is closed.

Drop off your tree for free at the Vancouver South Transfer Station or Vancouver Landfill until January 31.
