Home Field Heroes Grants for Local Soccer Initiatives

by Rebecca Bollwitt

There’s a new initiative that will help improve local soccer pitches, upgrade equipment, and enhance infrastructure at the grassroots level. The Whitecaps FC Foundation and TELUS have launched Home Field Heroes, which will offer grants of up to $15,000 to eligible community and soccer organizations across British Columbia.

To fund the program, TELUS will donate $2,500 for every goal scored by Whitecaps FC during matches from September 13 to October 18, including both MLS regular season games and TELUS Canadian Championship matches, up to a total of $50,000. With 11 goals scored through the first two matches, TELUS have already donated $27,500 to the Home Field Heroes program.

To be eligible, a club or organization must be a member of BC Soccer or be a registered non-profit with qualified donee status, and have delivered soccer programming in BC for the past three years. They can then apply for coverage of expenses for things like goalposts, nets, corner flags, team benches, scoreboards, and soccer equipment.

The application process will open on October 1 and close October 30, 2025. Successful applicants will be announced in December.

The Whitecaps Foundation‘s other programs include awards and scholarships, sustainability, and the Community Soccer Fund which provides grants that will align with the club’s priority communities, which include First Nations and Indigenous communities, the Pride community, women and girls, new Canadians, individuals with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
