La Poursuite is the latest EP from Vancouver’s own Francophone Artist of the Year, Missy D, which will be available starting March 12th on your favourite streaming platform. If her 2022 EP Case Depart was the beginning, La Poursuite is the journey itself. The EP is a collection of songs for dreamers, movers, and those searching for meaning in an ever-changing world.

La Poursuite is Missy D’s Next Step

Missy D is a bilingual femcee blending hip-hop, soul, R&B, and jazz in her self-coined Rap & Soul genre. Born in Rwanda with roots in Côte d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe, she raps effortlessly in French and English, bridging cultures and emotions through her music. Known for her captivating stage presence, she has performed at SXSW, NXNE, Vancouver Jazz Festival, and beyond, sharing stages with artists like Anderson Paak, Jully Black, and Snotty Nose Rez Kids. In 2024, she was awarded Francophone Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and in 2025, she received two La Trille Or nominations for Fan Favorite and Hip Hop Artist.

“Supported by the Creative BC Career Development Program and creative collaborators this EP represents a bold step into my Francophone music identity, with over 85% of the lyrics in French,” says Missy D. “Through this project, I explore new sounds, emotional depths with simple and heartfelt words—keeping my music accessible to French learners and Francophiles while staying rooted in hip-hop, soul, and raw storytelling.”

In the two years since Case Depart, she attributes her growing Francophone audience in part to La Manie Musicale, which introduced her music to over 4,000 Francophone and Core French classrooms/schools across Canada, the U.S., and beyond.

“Many teachers and students have found my music accessible, engaging, and a valuable tool for language learning, leading to invitations to perform for all ages across the country. My first love is performing, and I am beyond excited to announce that La Poursuite EP will be accompanied by a national tour (La Poursuite: 1,2,3 on y va avec Missy D) , including over 40 shows in schools, theatres and festivals from Regina, Toronto, Ottawa, Victoria, Nanaimo, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond and more.”

La Poursuite Track by Track

In Case Depart, there’s a track called Petit Pas, little steps, and La Poursuite is Missy D’s perseverance and journey continued. Take your time, but move forward is the message in the new EP’s first track Prends Ton Temps, which is followed by the call to move forward with J’avance.

I listened to singles released online, including J’avance, Matin Midi Soir, and Une Chance and then the full album through a press preview link. I went through the album front to back, then front again.

The track I have had on repeat is Une Chance, which reminds me of Au Delà from Case Depart with its ethereal harmonies that mimic heartache with a glint of hopefulness. Au Delà was about saying goodbye (and see you again soon) to loved ones, Une Chance comes from a new place. A place steps, and bounds, beyond the grief and heartache with solid footing with the energy and drive to take on the world anew.

Underground, the only track with English lyrics as well, speaks to solid roots, and Matin Midi Soir is for those who stand by us in our brightest and darkest moments.  Rendez-vous (RDV) is more than a love song, it’s about the importance of showing up for yourself first.

My AP 12 French definitely served me well, but even if you’re not fluent, you’ll still be able to follow the vibe of each track — and even some basic grade school French will come rushing back. You’ll be moved, motivated, delighted, and dancing with La Poursuite.

Missy D continues to push Francophone music forward on the West Coast. Follow her on Instagram for updates, and to see where you can catch her next performance.
