10 Indoor Activities You’ll Want to Try in Coquitlam
1. Reach for new heights
How would you like to burn tons of calories, strengthen your core and tire out your kids? Sound good so far? Indoor rock climbing is a great way to keep active during winter, and at ClimbBase5 in Coquitlam – Metro Vancouver’s largest climbing gym – you’ll find climbing options and programs for all ages and skill levels.
2. Line up a strike
Black lights and glow-in-the-dark balls take bowling to a whole new level during Cosmic Bowling nights at Zone Bowling in Coquitlam. Order food from any of the restaurants in the concourse to make it an easy night out. This alley offers five- and 10-pin bowling and a video arcade with pool tables. Strike!
3. Escape the winter blues
Gather up some friends to beat the clock and locks inside an escape room. In a nutshell, you’re trapped in a room with a set amount of time to crack the clues and make your way out to safety. Two to try: Countdown Escape Rooms and Trapped.
4. Let them entertain you
There’s just something about marionettes that can’t fail to put a smile on your face. Add into it a whimsical princess tale and delightful ticket prices, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Families won’t want to miss Sleeping Beauty Dreams at Evergreen Cultural Centre on February 9th, with pay-what-you-can admission. ECC is located at the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station.
5. Indoor playground
Release some kid energy at Crash Crawly’s, featuring a two-storey crazy maze of tunnels, bridges, ball pits, slides and more. Other attractions include laser tag, glow-in-the-dark mini golf and a miniature train ride.
6. Go VIP
Leave the kids behind for a deluxe movie viewing at Cineplex Cinemas Coquitlam & VIP, with comfy seats, a licensed lounge and in-seat dining (for ages 19+). If you can’t find a babysitter, one affordable option is the Family Favourites series on Saturdays, with discounted tickets.
7. The good ol’ hockey game
Calling all hockey fans! Why not get your hockey fix in Coquitlam by taking in a high-energy game at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex? Cheer on the Coquitlam Express, cold drink in hand, while scoping out the talent of the BCHL.
8. Get your skates on
Hit the NHL-sized rink at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex. After, you may want to use the facility’s whirlpool, steam room and sauna to warm up.
9. Shop & Sip
Looking for a new pair of heels, a Lululemon backpack or electronics from the Apple Store? Pop in to Coquitlam Centre, just steps from Lincoln SkyTrain station, to stroll through its nearly 200 stores. If that works up a thirst, take a venture over to Coquitlam’s first brewery, Mariner Brewing, where you sample their IPAs, cream ales or weisse beer in the tasting room. Cider is also available on tap.
10. Catch a wave
Make a splash in the wave pool at City Centre Aquatic Complex, which also has a slide and rope swing, lazy river and overhead spray features, or do some laps in the eight-lane Olympic-sized lap pool, followed by a soak in the whirlpool or relaxing steam or sauna. This rec centre is across the street from Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station.
