The SnowSeekers team has once again headed to Terrace, Quesnel, Wells, Barkerville, and Smithers to explore and report on some of the amazing conditions, terrain and experiences in Northern BC. This season, follow the second annual #SkiNorthBC on social media and through this story series.

#SkiNorthBC at Shames Mountain

The first stop this season is Shames Mountain, at the top of the Coast Mountains near Terrace, BC. It’s a powder paradise where you can carve through some of the world’s biggest snow dumps, with annual snowfall at the summit being 475 inches — that’s about 40 feet or the height of a 4 story building!

Get your legs ready for long fall lines (but not at the lift) and deep powdery goodness.

Whether you’re checking out the easy and accessible backcountry terrain, or seeking refuge in the day lodge after an afternoon snow dump turns the parking lot into an other-worldly mogul field. This is the year to get to Shames and enjoy more ski days on your calendar than ever before.

From the minute you arrive, it will make you feel nostalgic. It could be the classic rock tunes blaring in the parking lot and the big smiles of the attendants. It could be the funky little day lodge that has a warm and friendly vibe. Whatever grabs your attention, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into a simpler time.

You’ll instantly feel right at home in Canada’s first and only co-operatively owned and operated ski hill.  That’s right; it’s all owned by the locals.
