Surrey Canada Day 2014: Lineup, Schedule

Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

There’s something special about Surrey Canada Day. It could be the food trucks that roll up each year, dishing up everything from kettle corn and smoothies to burgers and poutine. It could be the abundance of exhibitor tents and activations, engaging everyone from kids to adults with interactive displays, activities, and helpful information.

Perhaps it’s the Surrey Canada Day tradition of the Seniors’ Strawberry Tea or it could also be the midway, packed with rides that take you up into the sky or spin you around. One might think it’s also the heavy-hitting concert lineup followed by a spectacular fireworks show to close out the evening. For me, above all, it’s the sense of community.

Surrey is the 2nd largest city in BC and the 12th largest city in Canada with a population of over 468,000 — not bad for a place that became an official “city” just 21 years ago. As Vancouver strives to become the Greenest City in the world by 2020, Surrey is set to become the most populated city in Metro Vancouver that same year. Through a series of free, family-oriented, culturally-diverse, and entertainment-driven festivals throughout the year, Surrey has helped continue to build its sense of community in its town centres.
