Blogger Profile: Briana Tomkinson

Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Over the years I have profiled bloggers from the Northwest Territories to the Fraser Valley, anyone that interests me and that I hope will interest you as well. A few years ago I started asking a standard set of questions and I’ve sent these out to a few local bloggers for this week’s series. Click, share, explore, and enjoy.

How long has your blog been around?
My husband Will and I started the site in October 2008.

What is your role/involvement (developer, owner, blogger etc.)
Co-founder, developer, blogger and editor! I’ve been involved in every aspect of the site, but I’ve also had a lot of help along the way.

What does your site do/what is it about
Tenth to the Fraser is about life in New Westminster, what people are thinking, doing and saying within our six-square-mile city.

What can people see, read, and do when visiting your blog?
We publish information about events around town, restaurant reviews, opinion pieces and features about various aspects of life in New Westminster. We welcome guest posts and comments. So far we have had 90 contributors to the blog, plus many others who have shared story ideas and comments. It’s a great venue for people who want to share something they are passionate about in New Westminster but aren’t interested in continually updating their own blogs.

Why do you blog?
I have been blogging for about 10 years now. I enjoy the connections I make with people via blogging, helping them find information they’re looking for, discussing different viewpoints on an issue and finding others who enjoy the same things I do. Tenth to the Fraser has been wonderful for this. It has really helped me to put down roots in my community and I believe it has helped other people to do the same.

What is the ultimate goal for your site, how would you like to see it grow?
That’s still a work in progress! I haven’t made up my mind yet where I’d like to sail this ship. I think TF readers and contributors could be involved even more, and there are a lot of things I’d like to write about and share about New West. I’m interested in trying out video on the blog, but it’s a pretty steep learning curve for me, as I’ve never produced one before!
