July 2011 Events in Vancouver

Comments 7 by Rebecca Bollwitt

The kids are out of school, the city’s outdoor pools are open, sprinkling regulations are set, and the mercury is bouncing past 30C (well, most days at least). It’s officially summer and that means free outdoor movies, fireworks, and much more happening in Metro Vancouver.

We have a great 10-day outdoor event along the scenic waterfront of West Vancouver starting July 29. Bring the whole family over to the North Shore to enjoy free live music, street performances, art exhibitions and talks, local food and a “900 ft” long art market. Take home special artistic creations from artists coming from all over BC and Ontario. Fantastic selection of ceramics, jewelry, leather goods, paintings, wood works, photography, glass arts and more. There are activities for all daily running from 10 am to 9 pm.

I LOVE Harmony Arts – what a treat – I’m a local and I take a picnic down to the park and hear live music every night during the festival. There are movies in the park – starting last year a wine garden was added. And then there’s the art…
My favourite is the night you can take in the art market, a concert at 7:30 in one park, wander down the lane, grab some coffee and dessert, and then take in another concert by the fountain.
I make sure that I am NEVER out of town during Harmony Arts – it’s all free and has a great community feel.

There’s the Summer Festival: An Anime Event at SFU Burnaby for Geek fans such as myself where you can celebrate one of Japan’s popular cultures. It’s a full day of food, entertainment, activities, and prizes in true matsuri fashion! Attendance is ABSOLUTELY FREE!

The outdoor festivities will begin at 2pm in SFU’s Convocation Mall, where there will be food stalls, carnival-style games where you can win raffle tickets, and a market area featuring a variety of artists and vendors.
