Vancouver Canadians: Hall of Fame Week 2
byThis summer I have partnered with the Vancouver Canadians and the BC Sports Hall of Fame for a couple of exciting opportunities. We’re highlighting Hall of Fame inductees and offering up the chance for a reader (and nine friends) to attend a Canadians game. On top of that, the winner of my contest gets to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Canadians game. My first winner threw out a pitch at last Monday’s game and this week’s winner will get the same opportunity on Saturday, July 2nd.
Featured BC Sports Hall of Fame Inductees: Helen and Margaret Callaghan
Hometown Vancouver
Inducted 2008 in the “Pioneer” category
Biography Vancouver sisters Helen and Margaret Callaghan sparkled on the ball diamonds of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s and later a PBS documentary on their baseball careers became the basis for the well-known Hollywood film, “A League of Their Own”.
They were called “diamond daisies,” who played in a Glamour league in ballparks across America. But they were tough as nails and weren’t afraid to “hit the dirt in a skirt.”
And a couple of bright northern lights, Vancouver sisters Helen and Margaret Callaghan, were among the best. Read their complete BC Sports Hall of Fame listing.
You can read and learn about amazing sports pioneers and stars on the BC Sports Hall of Fame website and be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook.
Here’s how you can enter to win 10 tickets as well as the chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch Saturday, July 2nd when the Canadians take on the Eugene Emeralds.
I will draw one winner on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 5:00pm. The winner will need to confirm their attendance by 5:00pm June 30th in order to win/claim their prize due to the short timing of this contest.
Individual Canadians game tickets in the reserved grandstand start at just $12.50.
Update The winner is Karen – Shannon (comment, June 24) – Rob!

Yeah, I used to go to Canadian games and thre was this great open bbq. Everyone just brought their own meat and bbq’d it up. Great games too
Thanks for including a Pioneer inductee in your C’s profiles!
as long as there’s no crying in baseball
I’m so happy to see the Canadians and Blue Jays working together. It’s always such a fantastic time to go to Nat Bailey and cheer on the C’s – and I look forward to doing it more this season!
I’ve never been to a game there and have vowed this is the year to cheer on the Canadians at Nat Bailey!!
The C’s should play a tribute game to them all wearing skirts.
GO Canadians!! I’d love to throw a first pitch!!!
I got a rocket arm and have been known to cheer with authority. Hope I win!
I’d love to relive my childhood dreams of baseball glory and throw out the first pitch!
@jannertons
I’m not sure I’d be able to make the ball reach the batter, but what a fun chance!
It would be so cool to throw the first pitch!!
Hockey season is over, so time to enjoy the great outdoors!
I live nearby but have not been to a game. This would be fun!
This would be a brilliant way to get to spend some time with my family! All we did in the summer when I was a kid was go to C’s games (cheap tickets from Safeway!) and hang out at Queen Elizabeth park…
The Canadian’s are big part of my family. We go as a family all the time.
We’d love to come out – my 12 yr and 9 yr girls will do the throwing!
love that line “hit the dirt in a skirt”
What an awesome opportunity! That would thrill my boys!
My husband and I used to frequent the Canadians games when we first moved here. Since my son was born we got him involved in baseball from the time he was 5 years old right up until last year he played on AAA teams and won MVP several times. He is now 20 and does not play organized ball anymore. We miss it and would love to spend a few summer nights or weekend at the Ball Park again!!
My husband would love this, we went opening day and go frequently throughout the seasons..its good local entertainment 🙂
Great to pay tribute to the women of baseball…they know how to throw like girl…strong and on target, no different from a boy!
