Win Tickets to Don’t Dress for Dinner

The creative team at Richmond’s Gateway Theatre has pulled out all of the stops for their final play of the 2015–2016 season with a presentation of Don’t Dress for Dinner.

This hilarious bedroom farce is written by Marc Camoletti, whose previous comedy, the wildly popular Boeing-Boeing, played to sold out crowds when Arts Club staged it here in 2013. Like Boeing-Boeing, Don’t Dress for Dinner is a farcical comedy that will have audiences rolling in the aisles.

Don’t Dress for Dinner

Where: Gateway Theatre (6500 Gilbert Road, Richmond)
When: April 7–23, 2016 at 8:00pm, with matinees April 9 & 12
Tickets: $45 for adults; $20 for students call the box office at (604) 270-1812 or book online

Adding new twists to the age-old themes of mistaken identity and romantic confusion, Don’t Dress for Dinner is a tale of attempted adultery gone terribly wrong.

With his wife out of town, and armed with a fool-proof alibi from his best friend as well as the perfect setting just outside of Paris lined up for a rendezvous, Bernard thinks he has everything figured out. Or, does he? A missed phone call rapidly transforms a simple, pleasurable evening with his mistress into a complicated night of mistaken identities, confused alibis, double adultery, and a “Suzette” as well as a “Suzanne.”

As with Boeing-Boeing, Camoletti has created the perfect recipe for a frisson of spontaneous laughter. Audiences should be prepared for a healthy serving of hysterical hijinks. Don’t Dress for Dinner is a co-production with Thousand Islands Playhouse and Western Canada Theatre. By Marc Camoletti, adapted by Robin Hawdon.

The Shore Break

South Africa, with its diverse population, rich tradition of struggle for democracy and equity, and complex political and economic reality, has produced numerous outstanding films. The movies you will see at VSAFF are among those.

This year’s lineup includes the award-winning documentary The Shore Break, and the critically-acclaimed Afrikaans film Dis ek, Anna. Each year VSAFF screens also one film from an African country other than South Africa. Ethiopia is this year’s spotlight country with Difret, a Sundance award winner from producer Angelina Jolie.

VSAFF is a non-profit event organized entirely by volunteers, and all proceeds go to support the important education development work Education without Borders. To date, the VSAFF has raised $84,000 for EwB and organizers are confident that this is the most significant festival of South African films that happens outside of South Africa every year.

Vancouver Special House Tour

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

The Vancouver Heritage Foundation is once again offering the very popular Vancouver Special House Tour, now in its 8th year. On April 16th you can join a self-guided tour of 5 beautifully renovated homes, including 3 Specials, a 1950s bungalow and a late 1950s split-level rancher.

Vancouver Special House Tour

New this year, the 2016 tour is expanding the theme to include two houses from a similar time period as the Vancouver Special, but in different styles. Like the classic Special, these homes offered adaptability and potential to their new owners.

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, April 15, 2016 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Tickets Available now for $30 or $23 with valid student ID

The Specials range from the early 1960s to the late 1970s and offer three different living situations in three very different homes. See the single-family Mid-Century Modern inspired dwelling with creative and elegant storage for young children, a late-model Special converted into a main home and a rental suite each with their own design flair, and an unusual duplex Special purchased by two families who renovated their individual spaces with similar materials and style.

The bungalow offers a taste of luxury, which is an intriguing departure from its simple architectural origins, while the rancher carries the lovely story of an owner who grew up in the house then moved away, only to return years later and find her childhood home on the market.

Each house offers creative design, renovated and restored architecture from the middle decades and all the inspiration one could ask for to retain and renovate these older homes. Experts in renovation and restoration, along with some of the owners, will be on site throughout the tour to answer questions about their projects.

This tour does sell out so be sure to book your tickets. Follow the Vancouver Heritage Foundation on Facebook and Twitter for more information.
