Jurassic Quest takes Vancouver back in time for two weekends in May. The largest and most realistic dinosaur exhibition in North America is coming to Vancouver for the very first time! Guests will take a walk through the Cretaceous, Jurassic and the Triassic periods and experience what it’s like to be among living, breathing dinosaurs.

Happening in the Vancouver Convention Centre, Jurassic Quest is the only dinosaur event that has over 80 replicas, true to life-sized dinosaurs from the very small, to the gigantic. Guests will witness dinosaurs move, roar and roam and have the chance to interact with baby dinosaurs and adolescent dinosaurs.
Jurassic Quest worked in collaboration
with leading paleontologists to ensure each dinosaur was painstakingly
replicated in every detail. Guests will have the chance to learn all
things paleontology at the excavation station, where they can dig up fossils and by visiting the
dinosaur museum to see real dinosaur fossils dating back over 60 million years,
including bones that originated in North America.
In addition to the life-like dinosaur exhibits, there
are countless activities throughout the event that suit all ages, including a
host of dinosaur themed rides, a baby dinosaur show, a bounce house, a science
station, a dino cinema and a toddler petting zoo where the littlest dinosaur
fans can meet the littlest dinosaurs. There will also be face painting and a
crafts and colouring station and much more.

Honorary Doctorate Ceremony
Two internationally revered leaders in North America’s art and design community will berecognized for their inimitable contributions to the fields of contemporary art and transition design by EmilyCarr University this spring.
Contemporary Canadian artist of Coast Salish and Okanagan descent and ECU alum Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun Lets’lo:tseltun and Head of the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University Terry Irwin will be awarded with Honorary Doctorates at ECU’s convocation ceremony on May 4, 2019 at 1:00pm. In addition, Vancouver Island artist/activist and ECU alum Marianne Nicolson will receive ECU’s Emily Award, which honours outstanding achievements by university alumni.

Presented by Coast Capital Savings, this year’s free family-friendly event will feature a new Cloverdale Rodeo Zone offering attendees a variety of western-themed activities including country music. The city’s own beloved soul queen Dawn Pemberton is turning 40 and to celebrate she’s inviting all to help her tear it up at The Great Get Down, a night in support of WISH Drop-in Centre Society on May 4th.

To mark this special milestone, Pemberton has enlisted super-slick funk band Soulstream to lead the festivities and Canadian beat-maker DJ Slade to keep party-goers grooving into the evening. Guests will also be treated to the sound of Pemberton’s fierce vocals as the vivacious songstress takes the mic for a few special numbers.
A staple of the Vancouver music scene, who recently toured with The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, Pemberton enjoys an avid following and casts a wide circle of musical friends and collaborators as a vocalist, teacher, facilitator, choir director and “go to girl” for live shows and studio sessions. A regular on the stage of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and Vancouver Folk Music Fest, her 2014 album Say Somethin’ won the 2015 Western Canadian Music Award for Urban Recording of The Year. Pemberton has collaborated with everyone from Randy Bachman, Matt Anderson, to Ndidi Onukwulu, Kurt Elling and opened for Maceo Parker, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Lee Fields, Cowboy Junkies to name a few.
Making it a birthday bash to remember, Pemberton is not only hosting the ultimate dance party, she is also giving back to some of the city’s most vulnerable. A percentage of all tickets proceeds for The Great Get Down will go to supporting WISH Drop-in Centre Society.
