Canucks Open Practice Recap

I promised myself I wouldn’t do any more blogging this weekend but we just got back from GM Place where we had a lot of fun being a part of the Ultimate Canucks Search booth. By “we” I mean The Crazy Canucks of course. Here are some photos from our exciting morning in Canuck-land.

Uh, plaid? And I thought pink was bad...
First pink, now… plaid?

One of my favourite players on the team, Willie Mitchell – he scored a breakaway goal today with his sweater over his head.

Ultimate Canucks Search guys
We should have audio up some time this week, but don’t quote me on that as we recorded a ton of cool clips today from fans, the Ultimate Canucks guys (above), a fellow podcaster, and even the creator of the Canucks fan Facebook application.

Canucks Open Practice 2008

With ticket prices up in the clouds at least the Canucks organization comes up with a handful of fun, family-oriented events each year that are low-dough or entirely free.

This Sunday, February 24th, the Canucks will host the annual Open Practice.

Fans will have the opportunity to watch their favourite Canucks players take to the ice in preparation of their February 27th match-up against the Colorado Avalanche. The festivities will also include a Canucks shootout challenge as well as appearances by FIN, the Canucks Mascot, and the Smirnoff Ice Team. Canucks

Pick up your tickets in advance but they don’t cost a thing. The best part is that the folks at the Ultimate Canucks Search will have some stuff going on in the concourse and we’ve been asked to participate!

Not only will we be speaking on a panel at Northern Voice on Saturday, but watch for The Crazy Canucks podcast members as we record an episode live from GM Place this Sunday. Come up to our booth in the councourse, say hi, get on the podcast with us and partake in many more activities that the UCS guys have in store.

Miss604 Stickers are Here!

While everyone is still waiting on their Moo cards, my good friend has mass-produced some stickers that I’ll be handing out to all who want them over the next few days. They are just like the image I have on my Macbook but now in a nice compact wallet-size!

Special item of note – as these stickers were donated by my friend (for this first time) I’ve attached his business card so that if you’re in the market for some fancy stickers, shirts, embroidered caps for your baseball team and things of that nature, you can give him a buzz.

If you’d fancy a Miss604 sticker just ask me at NV on Friday on Saturday, I’ll be around and as a volunteer and speaker I quite possibly easy to find. Oh and if you do get a sticker, and you do decide to stick it somewhere, feel free to take a photo and add it to the Miss604 Flickr Group.

CaseCampVancouver3 Live Blog

Comments 10 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Tonight I’ll be at the Lamplighter in Gastown attempting to live blog an event that’s new to me. From my understanding it’s like DemoCamp meets marketing, but there’s much more to it than that. Every presenter will get a few minutes to talk about their product and present a case to the group.

For presenters so far I believe we have Marqui, Radient Communications, Smak, WiderFunnel, 99directions, and Donat Group.

CaseCamp is an unconference for marketers. Following in the footsteps of BarCamp, and building on the model of DemoCamp, CaseCamp brings together people interested in marketing-oriented activities to learn from their peers via case study presentations. CaseCamp is structured on purpose. The goal is to create an independent forum for for great dialog. Typically, a presenter presents a case (good, bad, ugly, lessons learned, etc.) and then a lively discussion ensues during a Q&A period. [CaseCampVancouver3]

The lighting is pretty low in the venue so I’m unsure any photos will turn out right away via my iPhone but I’ll attempt to have a live blog going on this post’s url. Things kick off at 5:45 and will run until about 7:00pm at which time mingling will be encouraged. The website isn’t currently working for me, so check out the Facebook event for more details.

5:58pm: I’m here, I have wifi. First Case will be at 6:15pm, stay tuned.

6:15pm: Quick show-of-hands survey to find out what kind of audience we have tonight: bloggers, social media enthusiasts, photographers, web designers, PR folks, marketers, and a ton of other professionals. Continue reading this post ⟩⟩

Total Eclipse of the Moon, A Vancouver View

Comments 2 by Rebecca Bollwitt

I’ve always loved looking up at the stars, especially when you get the chance to peer into a night’s sky when you’re out of the city. When I went to Courtenay with Keira a few weekends ago I sat in the back seat of the car from the ferry to her mom’s house just looking out the window and gazing up at the millions of twinkles I never see anymore from town.

Luckily for us city folk something will be happening tonight’s sky that we’ll all be able to enjoy – light pollution or not. From around 7:00pm until about 7:51pm PT folks all over North America will be able to walk outside of their houses, apartments and offices, look up, and witness a total eclipse of the moon.

The space agency is predicting that “the moon will probably take on a vivid red or orange colour during the total phase” because there have not been any recent gas and dust emissions which block the sunlight and cause “dark” eclipses. [CBC]

It seems as though there are a lot of people who are really looking forward to this cosmic shadowing, heck there’s even a Facebook event setup for watchers. Instructions are to look 1 hour 20 minutes before and after to see the partial phases.

If you’ve scoped out an eclipse-watching site, feel free to share below (unless it’s top secret), and if you’ve got Flickr pics as it happens, drop a link in the comments – and let’s all hope it doesn’t rain.

Update: The first photo to come through on Flickr tonight, shot by Chris in who is in eastern British Columbia.

Update: Here’s another photo form Derek Miller [Flickr][Blog], who is in the Metro Vancouver area.
