Post #34 of #49 – Over the next 24 hours I will be raising funds for the Union Gospel Mission during Blogathon 2009 by writing a blog post every 30 minutes. Please consider donating to my cause to keep my going until 6am PT July 26th.

Prior to their concert at the Railway Club tomorrow night, Mojave stopped by tonight to play us a personal acoustic set in support of Blogathon. Note the lightning blasting through the sky in the background… nice effect (I think they may have planned that).

Mojave has their own blog and you can follow their updates (including show announcements and other band info) on Twitter @mojaveband.

As the sun sets in Vancouver, thousands are gathering along the shores of English Bay to witness the Celebration of Light fireworks tonight.

It just so happens that if you donate a minimum of $20 to my Blogathon campaign you’ll be entered in a draw to win a spot (for you and a guest) on the Granville Island Brewing boat cruise this Wednesday. The cruise will feature dinner, drinks, and one of the best views of the fireworks from out on the water.

As the lightning shifted across the sky, the grey wall of cloud surrounding the North Shore transformed the heavens into a milky orange hue. The sun began to set in Vancouver.

We hopped outside to capture some of the brilliant colours that drenched the sky and we weren’t the only ones who were captivated.

This morning I profiled my cause but with Blogathon half over already, and me still being shy of my goal, I thought it would be nice to share some of the work they do.

You can view more videos from the UGM on their YouTube channel. I’d like to encourage you to consider donating to the UGM online through my Blogathon campaign – your support for this very worthy cause, that helps so many, is greatly appreciated.

What say you?

Can you remember the last time you stayed awake for 24 hours straight?

My first time was that Grade 12-graduation party. To see if we could. So we could say we did. Sunrise on the beach, yeppers – we did it! We were free!

Then there was the youthful foolishness – the infamous “all nighters.” Party hardy. The only dreaded memory I have for 24 hours of no sleep was with the flue. On and off the head (aka toilet)… front and back. Not willfully ready to be repeat that one… ever!

Hey, but nothing like a good frolic in the sack to keep you up all night! Good times. Good memories. Ah yes, the morning glow that lasted all day till you BONKED with fatigue after some meal with the third cup of coffee. Still had a smile on your face though!

One time I stayed up all night editing a sponsorship video. I’ve never worked so hard it my life. I volunteered for it. When it was done, boy was it worth it. The video gleaned $15,000 for the event. I was super happy. So was the event that got the money.

Yes, we plan on spending the night awake. Creating blogs. Raising money for charity. What say you? Got a great “all nighter” you’d like to share with us? In the process, spend a few bucks and throw some money at one of the worthy causes we’re writing for. It probably won’t keep you up all night!
