Post #7 of #49 – Over the next 24 hours I will be raising funds for the Union Gospel Mission during Blogathon 2009 by writing a blog post every 30 minutes. Please consider donating to my cause to keep my going until 6am PT July 26th.
For the next few hours I will be profiling bloggers who have joined me here at Workspace for the Blogathon Vancouver on-site event. Blogathon is taking place around the world but it’s a pleasure to have organized something that can unite locals each running their own campaign.

One of such participants is my friend Raul Pacheco. He’s always eager to lend a hand, show support, keep your spirits up, and is one of the most friendly people you’ll ever meet. He’s blogging today on his site, Hummingbird604 and I believe he’ll have a few up on his research site as well. He is doing Blogathon for the third year in a row.

We’re hanging out in Gastown all day so I thought it would be neat to capture a bit of the scenery at such a wee morning hour. No tourists line the street, club goers are doing the walk of shame, and a vehicle cruises down the wrong way of a one-way street. Good morning, Vancouver.

Since 2001, Blogathon has connected bloggers virtually all over the world through a single 24-hour campaign. This is the first year that there has been an organized event in Vancouver and one hour in, it’s going swimmingly. Just to show just how much our region cares (and is crazy for blogging) there’s also another event happening right now out in the Fraser Valley.
Gary Jones from Bluefur and Rainer from ThinkReferrals have also organized an on-site event for bloggers in Surrey, Langley, and anywhere East of the Fraser River.
Check out Gary’s blog throughout the day for links and information and let’s cheer on this amazing effort from everyone in the Lower Mainland.

Blogathon is happening all over the world right now but in Vancouver some of the participants are gathered at Workspace so that we can offer support to each other and have some awesome guests stop by to cheer us on.
I planned on profiling some of the other bloggers joining me here today but I thought a good place to start would be to introduce myself and explain why I’m doing this. Continue reading this post 〉〉

Just a quick plug for our location today, which is Workspace in Gastown.
“WorkSpace is a shared work environment in downtown Vancouver. Our Gastown loft has meeting rooms, a lounge & a café surrounding a beautiful open concept work environment. We provide memberships (not leases) to independent professionals and small firms looking for a better place to work.”
I attended my first social media unconference at Workspace in 2006 and I’ve been a fan of the venue ever since.
It’s the perfect venue for Blogathon Vancouver as it provides an open shared work environment but also small offices in which participants can find some peace and quiet (although everyone is so focused right now you could hear a pin drop).
I’m looking forward to seeing how everything goes today, and through the night, but now that I know how to work the self-serve coffee maker, I think I’ll be just fine.
