Theatre Profile: Stripes: The Mystery Circus

Comments 11 by Rebecca Bollwitt

This week’s Theatre Profile and ticket giveaway features Stripes: The Mystery Circus – a “radically unique one woman show celebrating the comic circus of life.”

Stripes: The Mystery Circus is a play about an audition that humorously and touchingly goes awry. Stripes is a delightful theatrical spectacle that invites you to “map your imagination, chart your emotional life, sculpt your fears, paint your dreams…locate yourself.”

The performance is by Sarah Hayward who has actually been invited to the International New York Fringe Festival this summer. This is a great opportunity to see her in Mystery Circus before she goes.

Engagement: Friday May 28th & Saturday May 29th at 8pm, Sunday May 30th at 2pm
Location: Moberly Arts & Culture Centre (7646 Prince Albert Street, Vancouver)
Information: Words and Music by: Sarah Hayward
Tickets: $15 (adults) and $10 (students)

You can read Sarah’s blog for more information about her and the performance as well.

Sex and the City with Opus Hotel

While Vancouver isn’t hosting an official Sex and the City 2 Movie premiere, like the one at Radio City Music Hall in New York last night, there will definitely be chances to party.

SATC 2 Party at OpusThe Opus Hotel is hosting a VIP reception and fashion show on Thursday, May 27th to celebrate the film’s release and I have two tickets to give away for this event.

The party will have door prizes, Skky cocktails, canapes, shopping and more. Sarah Bancroft, editor of Vitamin Daily will be the emcee and The Bay presents fashions from the new Rachel Roy line (including the Halston Heritage dress worn by Carrie in the movie promos).

On top of all of this, my winner will also receive a DVD copy of the first Sex and the City movie.

To enter to win this fabulous night out, please leave a comment on this post. I’ll draw a winner tomorrow morning.

Update The winner drawn at random is Marissa – have a blast at the gala!

Fine print: Must be 19+ to enter since there will be alcohol served at the event. Also, there is still time to enter to win the ultimate Sex and the City prize pack from Miss604 and BCLC valued at $400 – details here

    Olympic Legacy Public Art

    Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Often you can’t go a full city block in Vancouver without encountering a piece of public art. Vancouver Biennale has quite a bit to do with that but now we have even more sculptures, installations, and statues that have been put in place as an Olympic legacy. About 20 permanent and temporary public artworks were commissioned for the 2010 Winter Games and among them are eight legacy sites that feature works from veteran and up-and-coming artists.

The legacy sites have the following pieces on display until December 2010 or later:

Should you have photos of public art in Vancouver (from legacy sites, Biennale, V-TARP etc.) please feel free to add them to the Miss604 Flickr Group. If enough are collected, I will feature them in my Week in Photos post on Sunday or Monday.
