Vancouver Panorama Photography

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

There are few places in Vancouver where public can get a panoramic view of the city without heading up one of the North Shore mountains. There’s the Lookout at Harbour Centre (which recently celebrated a birthday), then Cloud 9 restaurant atop the Empire Landmark Hotel. The other vantage points are mostly from private suites.

However, a new project “Vancouver 12 Gigapixels” saw Ronnie Miranda take panoramic shots from the top of our city’s tallest building, the Shangri-La Hotel and share the results online.

You can view the full image on the project’s website and also scroll from side to side, panning 240 degrees East to West across the city. The project’s blog has more information and additional shoot locations including the Richmond Oval.

I thought it would be fun to also include some old archive panoramic photos of Vancouver in this post. Here are a few that I found via the Vancouver City Archives. Click on the images to view each at full-size.

I have found a few more older photos that I’d like to match up with newer images. Should you have any panoramic photos of Vancouver please feel free to add them to the Miss604 Flickr Group and hopefully I can do another showcase.

Vancouver Canada Day 2010: Canada Place

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

Canada Place is hosting a Canada Day celebration downtown this year. Canada Place has done an amazing job of restoring the “fun” downtown for Canada Day when just a few years ago we weren’t allowed any parades or fireworks. For 2009, Canada Day at Canada Place was awarded the 2010 IABC Gold Quill Communication Management Award of Merit for ‘Special Event’, and was the winner of the BC Event Awards’ Best Festival in 2009.

    The BC Lions for 2010

    Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Next Sunday the BC Lions will kick off the second game of their 56th season back where it all began, at Empire Field in East Vancouver. With the dome at BC Place deflated and renovations well underway, the 2010 season will take place outside on turf where the team played from 1954 to 1982.
