Vancouver’s HP Store opened last year at 1162 Alberni to showcase HP desktop computers, notebooks, printers, accessories, and even clean your laptop for free. Last week I was invited to lead a talk about social media, the first of a series of in-store workshops they will be hosting.
In exchange for my time, I was given an HP Mini laptop which I would like to pass along to one lucky reader.

Terracotta Warriors can now be found around Vancouver thanks to the BC Lions Society. This is similar to the society’s previous projects such as Bears in the City, Orcas in the City, and Eagles in the City.
The idea is to have a local artist jazz up each one of the uniform 7-foot tall statues, adding their own flare and telling a story through the paint. The statues are then placed in prominent public places, in front of businesses and landmarks.
The Terracotta Warriors were supposed to hit the streets of Vancouver about two years ago but the project was bumped to 2012.
The statues will all be auctioned off at the Great Banquet on September 27th, with proceeds benefitting Easter Seals Services. You can find a list of all the locations online.
Hats Off Day will take over Hastings Street in Burnaby on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. This ultimate street festival kicks off with a parade, features a vintage car show, local retailers, and food from Burnaby Heights restaurants.
Spanning Hastings from Boundary to Gamma, about 100,000 residents and visitors take part in Hats Off Day, it’s actually an incredible sight. It’s consistently been voted “Burnaby’s Best Festival” every year since 2005.
There are plenty of activities for the kids throughout the entire 10-block stretch and grown-ups will enjoy sampling food, grabbing a refreshing lemonade, dancing, and checking out the vendors. The entire festival is free to attend.
Be sure to mark June 2nd in your calendar and bring the family out to Hats Off Day. Parking restrictions will be in place but there are also plenty of transit options.
John has a great set of photos up on Flickr from last year if you’d like to see more. Miss604.com is once again a proud sponsor of Hats Off Day.

Camping options in BC are abundant but as I noticed from the comments on camping post about campgrounds within 2.5 hours of Vancouver, some aren’t too happy with the consistent sold-out status of these popular outdoor destinations. To stay within the 2 hour travel zone, I’m going to dip down into Washington State and help you explore some options south of the border.
Camping in North West Washington State
These listings are for Washington State Parks only and do not include private campgrounds. For vehicles entering state parks, a Discover Pass is required ($30 for the year, $10 for the day*). There are many more options as you head down the coast but I’ve selected the four closest spots (and some with the most incredible views and lingering ocean sunsets).
