We are so fortunate to live in a city with such an appreciation for the arts and I am thrilled to once again introduce Ballet BC‘s program for the season and to offer up a contest for my readers.

Ballet BC’s 2014-2015 Season
Ballet BC begins its 2014–15 season with No. 29 – a program marking the company’s 29th season and 29th new creation under the artistic leadership of Emily Molnar.
No. 29 features the World Premiere of White Act by Spanish-born choreographer Fernando Hernando Magadan, the Ballet BC premiere of An Instant by Vancouver-born choreographer Lesley Telford and the reprisal of the explosive audience favourite A.U.R.A. by Italy’s Jacopo Godani.

Set to a dynamic electronic acoustic score by German duo 48nord, A.U.R.A. is sleek and startling in its relentless intensity, showcasing Jacopo Godani’s explosive and kinetic style. The provocative nature of A.U.R.A. combined with its virtuosic physicality proved highly successful with audiences and critics in Vancouver and abroad.
White Act
World Premiere
Choreography: Fernando Hernando Magadan
Spanish-born choreographer Fernando Magadan, a new voice in contemporary dance, reveres beauty, passion and nature, as well as the supernatural, and explores “…our constant attraction to everything that confronts and challenges the laws of physics against our mortal nature.” In this new work, he uses his clear artistic voice to create a complex, emotionally abundant world.
An Instant
Ballet BC Premiere
Choreography: Lesley Telford
Music: Michael Gordon, Weather
Inspired by Wislawa Szymborska’s poem Could Have, Vancouver-born choreographer and dancer Lesley Telford investigates “…the moment you wake up when chance, circumstance and unpredictability interrupt our planned lives. A critical moment may shift our direction in a split second.” Set to Weather by Michael Gordon, Telford’s work is beautifully poignant in its exploration of the fragile balance and illusion of life’s stability.
No. 29 plays the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 8:00pm November 6th to November 8th, 2014. Tickets range from $30.00 to $80.00 (including service charges) and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 1-855-985-2787 (855-985-ARTS) or online via Ticketmaster.

Back in 2008 I liveblogged the Interesting Vancouver event at the Vancouver Rowing Club. Founder Brett Macfarlane brought together over a dozen informative, creative, inspirational and thought-provoking speakers that night and the event has continued every year since. When I started this blog back in November of 2004 I had no goal and no purpose aside from tapping my fingers on the keyboard to express a few silly thoughts every couple of weeks. In 2006 I changed the focus of my site, writing more about Metro Vancouver, lifestyle, travel, my community and local charities that could benefit from online support. I attended events, I hosted blogging marathons for causes, and I met some incredible people thanks to the opportunities that my blog has provided. Doors have been opened, whether I knocked or not, and for this I am thankful.
In 2008 when I went out on my own, with the company I share with my husband, I still didn’t know how much the blog would grow. By 2010, when I wrote over 120 blog posts about the Olympics in our fair city, I knew I had to keep pushing and keep creating content that I love.

New for 2014/2015 at Whistler Blackcomb
Getting from Whistler Village to the start of your powder-filled ski run is now faster than ever with RFID access on all lift tickets. All passes and EDGE Cards will now have a RFID chip, allowing hands-free access through an automated gate system prior to boarding lifts.
Also new this season, the Whistler Village Gondola introduces eight-passenger gondola cabins. Whistler Blackcomb is investing $6 million dollars into the upgrade to replace the existing cabins which have been transporting guests up the mountain since 1988. If you do miss the old cabins, you can make your bid for one in a local charity auction until November 3rd.
There are new trail improvements in the Crystal Zone, widening the narrower sections of the Crystal Glide trail which leads from the Glacier Creek Lodge area to the base of the new Crystal Ridge Express. Further trail work has been done on Rock n’ Roll, Backstage Pass, and Ridgerunner to make the Crystal Zone experience more enjoyable for skiers and riders.

There’s also an expanded grooming fleet this season, terrain based learning in the Snow School program, and a new food and beverage option at Garbo’s Grill located in the Carleton Lodge at the base of Whistler Mountain. Promising the “Best Burgers in Town”, Garbo’s offers a protein choice of hormone and antibiotic free beef burger patties, grilled chicken breasts or quinoa and vegetable burgers. Diners then have a choice of over 20 garnishes, and gluten free buns are available upon request. Garbo’s will also have a number of breakfast options available to early birds starting at 7:00am, including coffee and a selection of breakfast sandwiches.
