SkyTrain Halloween Party 2015

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

If you’re out celebrating this weekend the wise choice for getting around would be public transit and if you’re up for a party anyway, why not have it right on the SkyTrain? The Vancouver Public Spaces Network (“VPSN”) will host the annual Halloween SkyTrain Party for all ghosts and ghouls on October 31st.

SkyTrain Halloween Party

HalloweenSkyTrainPartyWhat: 10th Annual Halloween SkyTrain Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 8:00pm.
Where: Meet on the train platform at Waterfront Station. The party will be leaving shortly after 8:00pm, so don’t be late.

Admission: Your price of admission is a $2.75 transit ticket, or your U-pass (kids, high school students and 65+ = $1.75). This event is all about celebrating transit, so please remember to buy a transit ticket.

TransLink passed on info to VPSN about safety at the event: Racing between trains at stops can be a real safety issue, so please try to respect that. The party will be making stops at every station between Waterfront and Richmond Brighouse and picking people up along the way who will probably have no idea what’s going on. They are all welcome to join in the fun so be courteous and pass along a fun attitude.

Once the party train returns to Waterfront Station, participants are invited to a covered public space one block south to continue the festivities (Seymour & Hastings Dome). If you need any more information follow VPSN on Twitter and Facebook.

Getting Your Vehicle Ready for Winter

My husband grew up in the American Midwest where there’s usually about 2 feet of snow on the ground from December to March. When the cold hits here in Vancouver, I make sure he’s in the driver’s seat when we hit the road because I trust his instincts much more. But why shouldn’t I feel confident in my winter driving and in my vehicle? I spoke with James D’Souza, Service Manager at Westwood Honda to get some tips on staying safe on the roads this winter and they definitely boosted my confidence.

Getting Your Vehicle Ready for Winter

Winter safety for your vehicle begins and ends with tires. One of the biggest myths about winter tires is that you only need them if there’s snow on the ground. “The weather around here is never the same from year to year, but it does get cold. What we do get here is a lot of black ice and a lot of frost on the road.” James says that any tire shop will tell you that at 7 degrees, you should change to winter tires. On a recent episode of a weekly web video series that whines about popular pet peeves, the host discussed the worst possible types of roommates. At the top of his list for being a bad roommate was the one who never takes out the garbage. Unfortunately, in my house I think that’s me but instead of garbage, it’s our massive recycling pile – sorry John!

In general, we do a really great job or sorting our containers (cans, bottles, packaging), paper, cardboard, and food waste. John has even commented that more of our home waste goes into the recycling bins than the dumpster, which he can easily measure if I have failed as a “roommate” and left the pile to grow and grow. Recycling is so easy to do and if one day our pile grows too big, as we do often like to host friends and family that are both fond of craft beer and delicious BC wines, we can always fill up our vehicle and drive it over to our nearest Return-It Depot.
