Today is International Dance Day and the Scotiabank Dance Centre is making sure Vancouverites can take part in some festivities.
Launched by UNESCO in 1982, International Dance Day celebrates the art of dance every April 29 with events worldwide
Free programs offered today include:
Vancouver Ballet Society Library will be open for visitors from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. Browse dance books, magazines and other materials.
Choreographic Traces Footprints taking place in and around Scotiabank Dance Centre from 12:00pm. Trace choreographic sequences created by leading Canadian artists, courtesy of Le Regroupement québécois de la danse, Montreal.
Co. ERASGA gives a studio showing of Alvin Erasga Tolentino’s OrienTik/Portrait, performed by Tolentino and Andrea Nann, with musicians Alison Nishihara and Jorden Riley. From 3:00pm – 4:00pm.
Spanish Passion Productions presents a demonstration/discussion of the Arte Nuevo Project followed by an open flamenco class with Artistic Director Eleonora Acuña. Demonstration/discussion 4:00pm – 6:00pm, class 6:00 – 7:00pm.
No Hitting Collective presents a studio practice of live improvisation in performance 5:00pm – 6:00pm.
Dance 4U Latin dance specialist Corey Solomon teachers a beginners class in salsa and merengue. All levels welcome, 5:00pm – 6:00pm.
SVS Style hosts an open hip hop class. All levels welcome 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
Pixie Hoops presents Hoopdance Momentum. Hula hooping fuses dance, exercise and play, keeping spirits high and bodies engaged. All levels welcome including beginners; hoops will be provided 7:00pm – 8:00pm.
