- This inclusive program welcomes participants and mentors of many gender identities – whether you identify as a girl, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two-Spirit, or gender questioning.
Participants (aged 12-14) can take part in hands-on workshops, showcase booth activities, and enjoy an inspiring keynote from Visual Development Modeler and Concept Sculptor Maritza Louis (Klukʷtús skʷukʷúsnt).
Louis has more than 20 years of experience working across feature animation, games, VFX, and cinematics. Her credits include Grand Theft Auto V, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sausage Party, Spider-Man: Homecoming, DC League of Super-Pets, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, Moana 2, Hexed, and many others. As an Indigenous woman working in the animation, games, and visual effects industry, Maritza has navigated barriers and experienced firsthand the importance of representation and opportunity.
Participants can also visit the Mentor Cafe and dive into hands-on experiences at a workshop, stepping into the role of a STEAM professional.
With a gender gap evident across many STEAM fields, Science World’s Girls and STEAM program effectively dispels myths surrounding these careers, providing a welcoming environment for girls to engage in STEAM activities, boosting their confidence and interest.
