Lunar New Year Events Around Vancouver
The Year of the Horse is almost here and there are community celebrations, workshops, the parade in Chinatown, and events all around Vancouver to ring in the Lunar New Year.

Chinatown Spring Festival Parade
The Chinatown Spring Festival Parade is happening Sunday, February 22nd. It will start at Millennium Gate in Chinatown at 11:00am, with the parade proceeding along East Pender Street, Gore Street, and concluding at the intersection of Keefer Street and Carrall Street. It will cover a distance of 1.3km, over about 3 hours. Participants in the parade include representatives from all three levels of the Canadian government, diplomats from China and various countries, as well as community groups, Scouts, military bands, lion dance troupes, dragon dance teams, cultural and artistic dance groups, and more.

Gung Haggis Fat Choy: Vancouver’s iconic fusion of cultures is back again to usher in the Year of the Horse with kilts, dragon dances, chopsticks, bagpipes, and dim sum on February 1, 2026.
Taste of Chinatown at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre: Now in its third year, the celebration brings the season to life through ticketed tasting events, creative workshops, family-friendly programming, and Foo Hung Curios collaborations, offering multiple ways for the public to celebrate Lunar New Year while supporting local cultural spaces and businesses.
Lunar New Year at Chinese Canadian Museum: The Chinese Canadian Museum is celebrating its first Lunar New Year February 21-22 with a festive weekend of family-friendly activities including treats, drop-in crafts, and cooking workshops. On Saturday, February 21, enjoy live performances of the audio play Bun Fun New Year in English and Cantonese by Five Blessings Collective. On Sunday, February 22, after the Chinatown Parade, join Chef Christopher Leow for a hands-on Prosperity Salad (撈起魚生) cooking workshop, and drop in to make a Lunar New Year couplet (揮春) with Bagua Artist Association.

The Lantern City: Installations for the Lunar New Year return to four sites around Vancouver in February including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Granville Island, Bentall Centre, and Granville Island. The We are a Family series at the art gallery highlights the diverse communities that live in harmony within Vancouver, featuring Chinese Canadian, Japanese Canadian, Métis, and other stories.
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden: The Spirit of the Fire Horse event series includes: an opening events on Saturday, February 21st with tea ceremonies, crafts and lanterns; and a Garden Derby Celebration on Sunday, February 22nd.
Mount Pleasant: Join festivities at 12:00pm on February 21st at Sun Hop Park, Main Street. Following a ceremony at Sun Hop Park, the lion dancers will make their way along Main Street, visiting participating businesses and sharing blessings as they go. This year, the route will run from Broadway up to 29th Avenue, making it easy to catch the lion in action as it moves through the neighbourhood.
Collingwood BIA: Hosting a lion dance on February 28th from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Museum of Surrey: In partnership with Chinese Village Club, the museum hosts a free event on Saturday, February 21 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm that offers the opportunity to learn more about Lunar New Year as well as the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. Activities include live performances, dragon dance teaching, poetry performances, traditional and modern dance, tai chi performances, storytelling and more.
West End BIA: Hosting a Lion Dance on February 21st at 3:30pm at Robson Market, on the corner of Robson and Cardero streets. Dancers bring a colourful lion costume to life with energetic movements and rhythmic drums, symbolizing good luck, prosperity, and the warding off of evil spirits.
Dragon Boat BC: Hosting an open house of their Chinatown Hub on parade day, February 22nd.
Metropolis at Metrotown: Festivities February 2-28. BC’s largest shopping centre will usher in the Year of the Horse with a series of performances, workshops, and traditional displays. On February 21st there will be a lion dance performance, lion dance lessons, mall blessing, and more. On February 22nd there will be more performances and a dumpling eating contest.
Gateway Theatre: Silk Road Music: Lunar New Year Celebration February 28th at 2:00pm, performed for a live audience in Studio B in Richmond. Tickets are available for $25.
