Dress for Success Vancouver 25th Anniversary
This year’s Luncheon celebrates a quarter-century of Dress for Success Vancouver volunteers, sponsors, supporters, ambassadors and champions. The organization was founded by Astrid Levelt in 1999 and initially run entirely by volunteers. These volunteers converted a nun’s bedroom at St. Patrick’s Parish in East Vancouver into a boutique, and gifted women who faced barriers to employment with interview outfits. Since that time, Dress for Success Vancouver has served over 44,000 women in the Lower Mainland offering dressing services, professional resources, mentoring, access to professional networks and a community of support.
Based on the median individual income for women in Vancouver, since 1999 the organization has contributed $1.9 billion dollars of collective annual economic value of wages earned by clients who found employment. Working with social and employment agencies supporting newcomers as well as gender diverse individuals and women in need, Dress for Success Vancouver continues to grow, expanding its services and supporting clients into fulfilling career opportunities.
